How would I go about making the dialog box show as a pop-up rather than at the bottom of the page. I find this quite user unfriendly!

The dialog box should be shown centered, AFAICT. Try using jQuery UI 1.7, but you need jQuery 1.3.x that comes with jQuery Update module 6.x-2.x.
