I build my site 2 months ago, I have one problem, the images are not showing up in catalog viw, so many people experience this problem, and nobody cares!!
I complained today how buggy ubercart is and that there is not support on their forum, and they just blocked me!!

I think this is happening all the time, as soon as somebody complains they block him, so that is why the rating are not real for ubercart, I think it the plugis should be in beta dev, it is full of bugs, my host looked at the problem, they could not figure it out. The images just dissapear. It is so irresponsible that ubercart admin deletes users if they complain. I think that should not happen!!!!

What can I do now, I guess I have to switch to magento or xcart.

What a shame!!!

works perfectly well for me and plenty of other users. Maybe if you turn down the hostility you'll find you get far more support. Pissing in the wind only gets you wet and stinky ; )

fender-dupe’s picture

yes of course, browse the catalog image missing, you will see how many people have same problems, and no support whatsoever. I begged 5 times for suport, they ignored my posts all the time.

THey told me to be more specific, how can you be more specific that I have been. I explained the whole problem in details. No help.
Infested with bugs if you ask me, I will never use it again.

You can't give a site to a client with missing images, or maybe you can?

vm’s picture

I certainly don't but than again, as I've already stated it works perfectly fine for me and many others.

being more specific means typical debugging steps and providing as much information as you can.

Is this on one install? have you tested locally? Is this a problem locally? On a server? What is the server OS running?

fender-dupe’s picture

I am pissed because I spend a week or so to get familiar with ubercart, and now the bug is preventing me to launch my site, the host is blue host, they use apache, php5, regular stuff. I haven't tested it locally. It is outrageous that I have to purchase a new host just because ubercart, all my sites are working flawless, only this one is giving me troubles.

vm’s picture

if ubercart works elsewhere and doesn't work on a specific server apache, php5 and "regular stuff" isn't helpful information.

specific version numbers would be helpful for those who would try and duplicate the system. Wasting a week may not have been necessary if you weren't so combative and provided better information then you've so far.

good luck though.

espirates’s picture

It's overly complicated and bloated, however it is one of the better store modules for Drupal. Wordpress has the easy plug and play ecommerce solutions that simply work the way you would expect them to work. Ubercart is a good match for Drupal, difficult and frustrating just the way programmers like it. It would be nice to have a slimmer store solution with a smaller footprint and without the extra baggage.

fender-dupe’s picture

The problem is not in complicity, it is not complicated, it is just not working for many people. I have spend so much time on this site, now it is a waste of time, and as soon as i complained -- BAN. So childiish, I think they try to cover up the bugs and they are doing pretty good job.

i25’s picture

"It is just not working for many people" won't help you.

As VM stated, I'm using Ubercart and it's working perfectly for me. I used Zen Cart before, and I find Ubercart much more user friendly.

Start posting some relevant info here and maybe someone can help.

What field are you using for your image field? Are you using the default image field that comes with the module? Are you using a custom CCK field? Have you checked field permissions?

I'm the admin who blocked fender on Ubercart.org.
First, I need to apologize. We strive to make Ubercart easy and usable for everyone, and we have failed. We will continue to improve Ubercart and make it easier. We know that setting up images in Drupal 6 / Ubercart is difficult for some, and we are improving the process in Ubercart 3.X on Drupal 7.

I have tried to be considerate and polite in helping fender, but I think it is time to speak frankly. In the four year and 15,000 plus users history of Ubercart.org, fender is the only (non spammer) account that (I at least) have blocked. This is a strong indication that the root of the problem is not with Ubercart, or the community, but with fender. First the community tried (as VM did above) to recommend using common forum etiquette as a way to get better response to his questions. We tried recommending he read the documentation and display that he had done so before asking questions addressed in the documentation / other forum posts. We tried (as VM did above) asking for details to help address the issue.

Most members of an open source community post to the forums because they want help or direction in fixing a problem themselves. Fenders approach seems to be one of "I will insult, be negative, and deride until someone fixes my problem for me. If someone doesn't, I will loudly proclaim how much you all suck!" This sort of entitled, self centered approach is not that of a member of a community, but rather a leach on a community. Even so, I did not block him for any of this. I only blocked him once he started replying to random forum posts with comments saying only "Ubercart is buggy, don't use it." This, imho, is intentionally disruptive to the community and an attempt to extort help / hijack the community forums.

If Fender agrees to be civil, and the Ubercart community is not against it, we will unblock his account. We want to help him. We want every person out there to have a good experience using Ubercart. We are trying our best to achieve this goal, and it makes me sad to have failed.

In that vein, I will attempt one last tilt at the windmill. Given the limited details available about the issue, I recommend Fender take the following approach.
1. Get a clean, fresh, default install of Drupal / Ubercart installed with image support.
A. Install the Apache, MySQL, PHP stack on your desktop ( easily done with pre-configured setups for Linux, OS X and Windows)
B. Do a clean, blank install of Ubercart / Drupal following the documented installation instructions on Drupal.org and Ubercart.org.
C. Create a few test catalog categories and products with images.
I'm going to assume that step 1. works. Now we know that the issue is either a configuration issue or a server issue.

2. Copy this working site and database up to your hosting service.
A. If it works, then the issue is probably a configuration issue. Compare the configuration differences and apply them one by one until you find the problem.
B. If it doesn't work, then the issue is probably a hosting issue. Look at www.example.com/admin/reports/status and www.example.com/admin/reports/status/php for differences between your desktop version and the hosted version.

fender-dupe’s picture

Ok so thank you for replying here, i can hardly beleive I am the only one getting banned. Are you afraid of criticizm, my criticizm was not so harsh, i just told people to be careful for the bugs, how would you feel if you build a site for a client and after it was finished the pictures would not show up? I mean do you think the client would pay?

The images show up in the intro and full view of the node, but in catalog pages (taxonomy) the are missing. THere are so many people experienceing same problem, and many have still this problem.

I researched the web for 3 weeks, tried everything, even host helped manually, they said they can't help and i use bluehost, very popular host, I can't move my sites to another host, no way because of ubercart. I rather use another shopping cart or even stop using Drupal for ecommerce and switch to Magento.

The problem is clearly bug, I am using Drupal for few years and rarely experience any problems, I always fix the problem, but now I am really stuck.

IS there a way you can make an exemption and log in into my site and check, because I just can't see the problem.
@i5

I dont use the default image

I created

image1
image2

in cck so I upload them easily them and not use the default image
If i enable the default shopping cart image then the images show up in catalog but are duplicated in intro and full view.

Can you please log in and check, I want to work with ubercart. I praise Drual, you can check my post, it is the best cms outthere, I use it for all my sites now.

THank you

I can send you username pass on pm if you want.

eclipsegc’s picture

is it possible that since you're not using the default image field for products, that the catalog, which utilizes that image, would fail? seems a simple case of misconfiguration at first glance.

Eclipse

fender-dupe’s picture

I dont think so.

I created 2 fields in cck for image 1 and image 2 and with image cache i selected 2 different sizes for intro and full view.

If I select default image, I can not set the size in image cache. The small thumbnail picture shows up in both intro and full view ( I am attaching screenshot).

So if i select Product image field: to image 1 the images gets duplicated, but in catalog the images is working ok, but if I select Product image field: none then the small thumb is not showing up in intro and full view node but at the same time the images in catalog are missing.

I am not sure if this is the way to do it, I doubt it, because I can not set the 2 different sizes for the thumbnail that is duplicated, it is only in 1 size.

So you are seying that I should select under show fields of product that the image 1 should be hidden?

I doubt this

here is image, i can not attach it to this post

No, what I'm saying is that the catalog is keyed to work (by default) with the image field provided by ubercart's product node type. You've chosen to use your own field (which is fine) so OBVIOUSLY the catalog's images will no longer work and you'll need to do some extra work. I would personally suggest you build a custom view to serve as your catalog. Ubercart provides "add to cart" field plugins and more for this very purpose. In this way you can utilize your custom imagefields instead of ubercart's default.

Bottom line, you wanted to customize it, and while that's ok, you can't go around saying that the product doesn't work because you failed to understand the implications of your customization. I understand your frustration here, but chances are you've spent so much time looking for a solution because there's not actually a problem here. It's not magic, the catalog isn't going to read your mind. You want a custom solution, you have to anticipate all the implications and build accordingly.

In short your solutions will look like this:

1.) You provided your own imagefields on the node type already, and you obviously understand how to do teaser/full view settings, so that's done.
2.) Build a view to sit in place of the catalog that utilizes your imagefield instead of ubercart's default on the product node type. (note that this is worst case, I don't know if catalog is actually configurable to utilize your fields instead, but there IS a solution)

Eclipse

fender-dupe’s picture

However, I doubt that this can't be done in another way like with image cache, I want to use the current image sizes, for intro, for example, 150 px, for full view 800 px and that the catalog images would appear.

But many people experienced same problem, and I think that the catalog images should appear anyway, even if you don't select the default image.

I saw other people sites and they have different sizes for images like I do and under catalog all images appear.
I still think it is a bug, but let's wait for the ubercart boss to answer.

Andy_Lowe’s picture

EclipseGc -- Thanks for your help on this.

Fender -- Just use the default catalog image and modify the settings at www.example.com/admin/build/imagecache/list for the product and product_full presets to re-size to the sizes you want. Or take EclipseGc's suggestion and build a custom view.

"I think that the catalog images should appear anyway, even if you don't select the default image." -- I understand that you're frustrated with this problem, and it's hard to accept the outcome of this debacle, but that is just ridiculous. I don't know how you think Ubercart should know which image to use besides the default, but when you figure it out, let me know.

I'm certain this is not a bug. As you said, there are many, many other Ubercart sites that work as expected. This is a STRONG indication that it is a configuration issue. If you try the above suggestion and still can't get it to work, send me a temp. admin account for your site and I'll set it up for you.

fender-dupe’s picture

Ok so here is some improvement

Now I know how this thing works a little better, I just wanted to use image field in the cck and set everything with cck.

I am addiing images with cck image field by file upload. So I disabled image1 under display fields

I have set the product image to scale 200 px under image cache and product_full to 780 px, but when i click to open the node, the image does not change to product_full which is set to 780 px wide, it stays in small size 200 px.

I am clueless how to set this up also I want in the intro node for example on home page the product image to be linked to node, so it opens product node when you click on it, now it just opens the image and not the node.

andy also you can log in with user:andy pass:andy

and please tell me what I am doing wrong

fender-dupe’s picture

SO any updates, please unban me first i will behave anydy. Did you figure it out how the default picture resizes to product full , I haven't, are you sure that is possible? It ain't working on my site, as I have seen you have only disabled cck image 1 field to show in intro and full view?

Andy_Lowe’s picture

Your account is active. I've been running a fever of 102 for the past couple of days, so I haven't been able to spend much time on your site. I'll take a look as soon as I get caught up.

fender-dupe’s picture

Thank you

And I am sorry you are sick, looking forward to your explanation. I hope it is not only my misunderstanding of ubercart, because I don't have any problems with other components whatsoever.

fender-dupe’s picture

Still sick, i am waiting for a simple answer for 10 days, already, before I waited 40 days, and that is the reason i became grumpy. The support just aint good enough. Sorry. I am sure it would not take you 3 or 5 minutes to check my admin. Imageine you have a client and you are stuck like that for 50 days, the client is wating, you ask 10 questions on forum and no answer, you go crazy.

michelle’s picture

The support just aint good enough.

Correct me if I'm wrong since I don't use Ubercart, but isn't it free software? Did you purchase a support contract?

Michelle

fender-dupe’s picture

No I haven't, if they would charge for it I would never install it. Are other plugins commercial for Drupal, the support is always great? I got a reply and solution in few days. Here I wait for 40 or 50 days, I am not sure.

vm’s picture

I'm sure developers appreciate your contributions

michelle’s picture

My point was, if you aren't paying for support then you can't expect support. It's great if they do and it sure seems like they are trying despite your behavior. But saying something you are getting for free is "not good enough" is rather rude.

Michelle

i25’s picture

At this point, I would confidently venture to say that experts on this forum are intentionally not answering your questions due to your conveyed attitude.

fender-dupe’s picture

Really, I doubt that.
I think the problem can not be fixed.

ColdSun’s picture

The problem is more than likely easily fixable. However, your posts here have demonstrated your lack of ability to discuss your problems in a relatively mature manner. Each and every post you go out of your way to make threats of switching products. As such, I doubt anyone here wants to help you, I most certainly don't. Further more, you keep mentioning a client and how hes waiting on you to finish the site. Frankly put, you really should develop some programming skills or atleast join forces with someone who can, if you're going to be taking peoples money.

For anyone else who comes across this issue with ubercart, feel free to PM me and I'll be glad to get it working for you in a timely manner.

fender-dupe’s picture

ok thank you very much , obviously you want me to stand on my head and repeat Hallelujah 100 times, I don't know what you want from me, just grow up and man up? Am I such a bad person now, I always praise Drupal, 95 % of times? But I would like to see your reaction if a client is waiting for a website, and you don't get an answer because of laziness. I would like to see your reaction. You just don't want people to know about the fix to this problem, so only you can advise them through pm and charge them right? I thought Drupal was OS.

Maybe not for you buddy

markconroy’s picture

Fender,

I am surprised at the patience that people have shown you on this thread. By your own admission, you have said that you know nothing about Ubercart (about 5 posts up). This should tell you to be more patient and willing to engage in a constructive manner. By your own admission, lots of other sites have what you want working. This should tell you that the problem can be fixed.

For my own part, I installed Ubercart for the first time about a month ago and was completely overwhelmed by the scale of the product and what it could do. So much so, that I didn't look at it for another few days. Then I took a deep breath, looked at a few of tutorials on YouTube, read some documentation, browsed the Drupal forums, and, lastly, messed around with the product. Whilst I haven't been successful just yet in getting everything done with it that I wish to do, I am enjoying the learning process and have managed to get most of what I want done.

And finally, I think the problem is on your site/side - you need to go through each part step-by-step, permission by permission, and a heartfelt apology to the Ubercart developers wouldn't go astray.

Drupal and it's modules are open source. Which means you can look at the code, manipulate it as you see fit and distribute it. I hate to break it to you but Open Source doesn't mean what you seem to think it means.

jasenmichael’s picture

does anyone know a good alternative to ubercart for bluehost?

vm’s picture

Ubercart and ecommerce are the two methods available at this point in time written specifically for Drupal. There are some bridge type modules to 3rd party scripts like magento in the downloads area. I've no experience with those.

I also have no expereince with bluehost to know what the host (or what your belief that the host) has to do with an ecommerce module.

markconroy’s picture

What's the issue with using Ubercart on BlueHost? I use it and it seems to be fine.

Insinuating I want people to IM me so I can charge them for support is rather humorous. I happen to find personal one on one discussions far more benifical and less likely to have others derail the conversation. Additionally, when solutions are found, they then can be posted =).

None the less though, if i were to want to charge, I would be well within my right to. Just because a project is open source does not mean its support is free. I am finding it hard to believe that you even know what open source is.

fender-dupe’s picture

wow, after 2 months, still no answer, the guy told me to create a username for him on my site, he never logged in, even though he promised.
As I mentioned first time, ubercart support really SUCKS!!

I have never waited so long for a simpla answer from a developer in my life. I always get an answer. And when I complained that the guy is igoniring my posts and that his support is horrible, HE BANS ME.

Now it is clearly obvious that something is really wrong with ubercart. They just don't care.
And the forum is horrible too, no answer for weeks.
Months.........................

Time to change my shopping cart or even Drupal :((

michelle’s picture

Yeah, maybe you should change your shopping cart. Find one you pay for where you have a right to demand support.

Michelle

WorldFallz’s picture

Now it is clearly obvious that something is really wrong with ubercart

No-- now it is clear there is something really wrong with you.

Where do you get off complaining about something you've gotten for free, with people bending over backwards trying to help you for free, even while sick, in spite of your bad manners, rudeness, and overwhelming narcissism???? What planet do you live on? Where does this level of selfish entitlement come from?

Please, do everyone here, drupal, and ubercart a favor and do find some other product to use-- see how long other open source projects tolerate your attitude. Then breakout your checkbook and buy something where people get paid to put up with customers like you.

Frankly, I'm shocked at the amount of tolerance being shown you in this thread-- you don't deserve it. As for me I'm over it. This thread is now locked.
