Here's a patch to that adds a permission for who can view the download and played stats in hook_link().

if you don't mind, i'd like to leave this out of head for now. people that don't want it can remove it by using the links_alter hook.

it's already installed. i'm going to make a small change to make showing the stats the default permission.
