Best solution for video on a shared hosting?

We would like to have a simple CCK Content Type called "Video", including a title, description, and file upload field for a video file. The file should automatically be converted etc., so that when the "Video" node is being displaced the video is automatically displayed in a Flash player.

Can someone recommend any modules for that? The Blue Droplet module does not seem to be suitable for a shared hosting environment because it needs certain other things installed..

video conversion requires ffmpeg (or something like it)-- there's no way around it if you want to convert video to flv for use with a flash player. Video conversion is usually problematic for shared hosting, but you'll have to check with your host to be sure. blue droplet has a service to do the conversion offsite for just such a situation. The other option is to use something like blip or youtube to do the conversion and host the video.

Point here is that we are developing an intranet, i.e. videos published there are not meant to be public on YouTube or other sites. I will ask our hoster if he can install FFMPEG for us.

I totally get that-- most of my work is on an intranet. But that doesn't change the fact that the bandwidth and horsepower required for video conversion is usually prohibited by shared hosting account tos. Even if they allow/install ffmpeg, if your conversions end up taking over or spiking the server (and therefore degrading performance for all the other shared accounts on the server) they will probably lock your account and give you all sorts of ultimatums. Another option, if your host doesn't allow it, is moving up to a vps type account-- then you can do whatever you want. good luck-- and post post back what you end up doing.
