I upgrade Drupal from 6.15 to 6.16 and i was overwritten my .htaccess. So i try to reinstall my gallery module.
The install work fine but after step 5 (with skyp sync or sync option) the install start again and loose all parameters.
Somebody have an idea to resolve my matter ?
Thanks !

lvthunder CreditAttribution: lvthunder commentedDo you have a backup or your files and the DB from before when it was working. If so just revert back to that and manually copy the stuff Gallery puts in .htaccess. If not I'm not sure what to do.

Spacio CreditAttribution: Spacio commentedI'm working on a new Drupal site and if i revert back i will lost it !

00trav CreditAttribution: 00trav commentedI can confirm this happens with my installation as well. As Spacio reported, I upgraded (overwriting the .htaccess), then went to reinstall gallery2 module (as I have done through many other upgrades) and the installation will not complete. Instead after step 4 when it asks about configuring the rewrite rules the installer will go back to step 2 and blank out all settings (regardless of whether you choose to configure rewrite or skip).
I do have a backup, but would rather find a solution as new posts have already been added.

lvthunder CreditAttribution: lvthunder commentedTry adding the part the gallery module adds to the .htaccess file to the new .htaccess file and see if it works then. That's how I did it. I took that part added it to the new .htaccess and didn't have to mess with anything else.

00trav CreditAttribution: 00trav commentedI have added the gallery .htaccess code from the old .htaccess, and the system still will not complete the install. I am starting to think it has to do with the user sync.
Is there a way to manually install or configure the modules?

00trav CreditAttribution: 00trav commentedWork Around:
I figured out a work around (kind of), so I thought I would post it in case someone is having similar problems. In order to do this you must have a backup of your database (although it does not need to be the most recent backup). First I updated the newest (drupal 6.16) .htaccess file with the gallery2 code (if you don't have that backed up you can find it online - just fill in your details). Second I loaded up my backup database into mysql and went to the 'variable' table and exported all rows that had 'gallery' in the beginning of the name (I used phpMyAdmin, but you could also just use a sql script). I then went into my current database 'variable' table and deleted all fields associated with 'gallery'. Then I uploaded the old gallery variable rows. Run and update, and flush your caches. Should be good to go.

Siassei CreditAttribution: Siassei commentedI have the same problem. It's a new site. No Backup, .htaccess, ... nothing
What I should do?
lvthunder CreditAttribution: lvthunder commentedAll I can suggest is install Drupal 6.15. Then get gallery working. Then copy .htaccess somewhere else. Update to Drupal 6.16 and copy the gallery part of .htaccess (the old one) to the new .htaccess file.

yanosz CreditAttribution: yanosz commentedHello,
same problem here.
New site, no backup, fresh install.
Is there a downgrade guide from 6.16 to 6.15 for your workaround?
Since the database has changed, I probably need a way to "undo" these changes.
Btw Priority:
Since I cannot use the module at all, I think critical is justified:

Same issue here after upgrade from drupal 6.14 to drupal 6.16.
never had any issues so far with upgrading base drupal. why is 6.16 different?
lvthunder CreditAttribution: lvthunder commentedSomething in the update broke the configuration of the settings. I sent an email to the G2 devel list to see if there is anyone that can help here.
Fogg CreditAttribution: Fogg commentedTried again... and instead of using a fresh drupal 6.16 + loading modules on config into this I just updated the existing 6.14-directory with the 6.16 core files. This worked like charm. So update successfull. Something must be broken/missing in 6.16.
lvthunder CreditAttribution: lvthunder commentedCan someone try and install the module with the new Drupal 6.17. I saw that a bug was fixed that was conflicting with some modules. Hopefully that's what was wrong.
Fogg CreditAttribution: Fogg commentedHi folks,
tested on drupal 6.17.
After the upgrade from 16 to 17 I got this message at the beginning:
warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, 'gallery_page' was given in /var/www/html/ddraes/draes/drupal-6.17/includes/menu.inc on line 348.
This was probably due to the fact that I had the gallery module in the modules directory instead of sites/all/modules. After moving the module to the right place an reactivting it in the config all seems to be fine.
Cheers,
Fogg

johnmullin2003 CreditAttribution: johnmullin2003 commentedsame problem with drupal 6.17.
I had Drupal 6.16 but my Gallery module was disabled. Then i've just upgraded to 6.17, enabled Gallery and I notice there is something wrong with new .htaccess.
Unfortunately I have no .htaccess backup file.
Any idea how to fix?
thanks

lvthunder CreditAttribution: lvthunder commentedIs there a .htaccess file in /home/mysite/public_html?
stonep CreditAttribution: stonep commentedI had the same problem, the fix for me was to disable clean urls in drupal while running the wisard and ignore the warnings, it completes and works after that.
I then enabled clean urls in drupal again and it seems to be working fine now :-)

johnmullin2003 CreditAttribution: johnmullin2003 commentedyes, ofcourse!
the default drupal release .htaccess
Comment #20
lvthunder CreditAttribution: lvthunder commentedDepending on how your server is setup you might need to change the permissions on that .htaccess file so Drupal can write to it.

mathbouq CreditAttribution: mathbouq commentedI get this same issue of Gallery install restarting after step 5 is completed.
I have a Drupal 6.17 with about 800 users, Gallery2 (2.3) being a fresh install.
I tried to install it on a fresh Drupal 6.17 install, and everything ran well, and it ran well on a fresh Drupal 6.16 install too. But on my production instance (recently upgraded to 6.17), the installation process restarts after initial user sync is completed with no error. The same occurs when I skip the user sync.
I deleted all entries related to gallery in the variable table, I put 777 rights on the .htaccess file, I disabled the clean URLs in Drupal, I tried all what has been mentioned in this discussion, but still can't get the gallery module configured on my production instance.
I also disabled all the modules on the prod instance, uninstalled the gallery module, and restarted from scracth (with the prod install of Drupal), but still got the same result. I can't figure out where the problem comes from...
Is there any way to "force" the configuration? After all the steps have been processed, everything seems to be ok: my Drupal .htaccess contains the Gallery rules, all users have been synced, all the settings seem to be correct. I don't understand why it wouldn't work.

mathbouq CreditAttribution: mathbouq commentedDoes anyone read this thread? It seems that this issue occurs on many installations...

gorha CreditAttribution: gorha commentedI had the same problem on Drupal 6.17.
After restarting the installation process a couple of times, I disabled all Gallery2 modules except the base Gallery2 module (Gallery2 - ON, Gallery G2Image/Gallery Menu/Gallery Profile - OFF). Then the installation was OK and I could enable all the Gallery2 modules that were disabled.
johnmullin2003 CreditAttribution: johnmullin2003 commentedgorha, i tried to follow your workaround but nothing happened.
still the same issue: setup starts again after step 5.
ps: I have last Gallery2 release, downloaded today, fresh new install and last dev. Drupal Gallery module.
any idea?
thanks all

it's very annoying...
ixus65 CreditAttribution: ixus65 commentedI deactivated the point “Gallery profile” in the module and called Gallery Settings. After that all attitudes were made in Gallery Settings, I activated "Gallery profile" again. Works now perfectly.
(Drupal 6.19)
Sorry for my broken english ;))
lvadillo CreditAttribution: lvadillo commentedI got to a situation where I have no clues at all on what to do. On my migration from Drupal 5.22 to 6.19 I ended up having Gallery2 hanging aorund without a valid installation. I need to do several migrations and depend heavily on Gallery 2.
Installing Gallery2 step by step works almost, but after the final step 5 the installation reverts to step 2 (gallery2 location settings). The locations that worked with Drupal 5.22 were a little weird filesystem path as I'm using Windows with the Apache server:
Gallery2 URL: /gallery2/
filesystem path: c:\initial-path\sitename.org/gallery2/
This setup gives me an OK for the "Test location settings" and restarts the other steps again, and again.
I wish I could find a way to avoid the final "fatal test". Tried to figure out what #27 mentions but not clear enogh for me the entry!
Any help will be welcomed.
gejo CreditAttribution: gejo commentedI had the same problem. I tried almost everything you suggested here with no luck.
Finally, as suggested by ixus65 (#27) I solved it by deactivating any sub-module inside Gallery2 group (in Drupal) but leaving activated the main module "Gallery":
x Gallery
o Gallery G2Image
o Gallery Menu
o Gallery Profile
Then I got successful update. After that I could re-activate the other modules and still works ok.
Good luck!
pixelpreview@gmail.com CreditAttribution: pixelpreview@gmail.com commentedsame solution than gejo
you must activate only the first module (core) and not the sub modules
the install will be succesful and after you can activate the others sub modules without problem
Comment #31
Spacio CreditAttribution: Spacio commentedMy hoster move my server and I have got the problem again !
I tried to deactive sub-module, clear cache, always without success...
Nobody knows how to write into database the right settings ?
oneoftwo CreditAttribution: oneoftwo commentedI'm also having this problem. I upgraded my page from 5.23 to 6.20, and moved some things internally so the gallery module needed a new configuration. I started the installation part of the module, but it wouldn't save any data (and the old data was lost). I only have the Gallery component of the module activated (no sub-modules). The behavior is the same whether I skip or confirm steps 4 and 5. I also tried with both 1.0 and dev versions, no luck.
