May i draw attention to this ongoing discussion

http://drupal.org/node/72071

In Europe many ISP now funnel their users through a transparant proxy IP and Drupal is not discovering their true IP. This makes User banning and discovery impossible. It also renders modules like polls useless for annonymous users.

We feel that an option to either discover the real IP or both the proxied and real IP of members at core level is paramount to a smooth running of a website.

I wish i could help with the writing of such a routine but unfortunately i have no php coding skills beyond limited easy stuff. If anyone can help we'd really appreciate it.

It seems to be an important issue.
Any "fix" to this feature request?

Moving to cvs.

I don't think there is a working and reliable way to get the real IP if it is masqued by a proxy.
