using 'mail' as UserName attribute results in no LDAP attributes being displayed

Because the usernames in AD are cryptic at best we want to use the mail field as the UserName attribute and you can login without issue. The problem is nothing is displayed for the "LDAP attributes", if I switch back to using sAMAccountName for the UserName attribute then the LDAP attributes are displayed without issue.
