HI you can read documenation at http://drupal.org/getting-started/before .

PHP & MySql are mandatory for Drupal.

Read that documentation page, as Kuldip Gohil noted.

PHP and MySQL are things Drupal needs, but as a Drupal user, you do not need to have any knowledge about them. As long as they work, you may (in general) safely ignore them and just focus on how to use Drupal.

I now have installed drupal 6.14 using fantastico (that tool comes with my hosting service)
and also have wamp server with MySQL 5.1.33 and PHP 5.2.9-2.

Thanks kuldip,

Question1. Now When i open http:///drupal (by actually putting my domain name there), I get to see some file stucture.
like.. parent directory->drupal->sites->settings.php..
Is that correct? does it say my drupal installation is correct?

Q2. Why Settings.php file seems empty when i click on it? (but, size is 9k)

Q3. Where can i get to see the primary links/sec. links, page/story things and where can I start creating my new site/

Please Please help me I have got confused due to all this mess!!!! and I am new to Drupal but want to use it ASAP.

Thank you.
Sampada.

You're not likely to get very useful responses with such a general question-- see the documentation (available via the "Documentation" link above) and post to the forums with specific questions as you encounter them.

This should answer your question http://drupal.org/requirements

I highly appreciate it :)

Ok.. thanks.. so I need PHP and MySQL.. which i dont have installed yet... :(
I also had seen some videos showing WAMP server does it all i.e. installing PHP and MySQL.. so if I install/download wamp server will it do my work of installing PHP and MySQL for me?
I mean, is it (wampserver) an authentic tool for PHP and MySQL installation, can I use that?
Thank you in advance :)

If you mean http://wampserver.com -- yes and it works great. Just be sure to get a version that uses php 5.2 and not 5.3 (not fully supported yet).

Though you mention fantasico so I'm not sure that you don't already have php and mysql (usually available by default in most hosting environments).

Also beware-- though a fantastico install is fine for playing around with or learning drupal, it's is strongly not recommended for a real/production site.

ok thanks. So do i need to strike out what i have installed with fantastico. I mean as its not recommended, is there any other easiest way for drupal installation? (other than manual installation, as i tried manually, but stuck up at step5 in it.. anyways)
please help..

You're best bet is to read and follow the many many many videos, tutorials, and installation instructions already available.

thats why....

1) Upload the drupal folder to your site so it looks like this www.yoursite.com/all-the-drupal-files

2) Set up a database using MySQL (there's usually a set up wizard in your control panel)

3) Go to www.yoursite.com/install.php and follow the instructions (should be easy enough, provided you set up the database correctly)

4) Wow! You have a Drupal site up and running.

5) Read some documentation and forum posts about how to add content and change the look and feel to the site.

If you can't do the above, then maybe Drupal is not for you.
