After researching the issue for a long time and trying different methods and configurations i have placed together all the information into a very useful guide that even by blindly copying and pasting it's instructions help you handle the highest loads and boost your site performance.
this is done by throwing away the apache web-server and forgetting it's name.
then getting nginx with php-fpm (or phpfpm for short LQTM) together with apc and boost module i can now handle more then 400 registered user requests in a single second and more than 7000 anonymous users in one second.
you can find my guide here

However, are there only two pages to it? No instructions for starting the server, where to place your drupal installation, any special tweaks to the settings.php file...I expected more.

But, it was a good synopsis for the first part of installing Drupal on a ngnix/php-fpm platform. You've inspired me to try this on a test box.

we are happy to know you are considering this configuration, most people just take the easy way and install apache , later wasting a lot of time trying to squeeze more from it just to understand that they need to consider a different approach.
regarding your expectations, well, in the very near future we are going to post an expanded guide with lots of advanced php and fpm settings.
you can follow us on twitter here.
feel free to leave your comments also on the phpfpm.com site.
