Just wondering if any of our USA based Drupallers have played around with google checkout. I only found this tentative mention of trying google checkout on here.

I had a quick look at the information for sellers but quickly discovered it's USA only, so I couldn't try it out.

Am I right in thinking they are simply taking on paypal?

I subscribe to the mailing list and I can say that its on the radar. There are a few interested parties but no one has stepped up to the plate to code it as of yet. It should only be a matter of time. Search to the mailing list archive if you're looking for more specific answers.

As of today anyone can use Google Checkout...

Maybe it's time to take a closer look :)

Hi iMerlin,

I just had a quick look at the sign up page and it's still asking for a USA tax ID number.

Google Checkout merchants must have a U.S. bank account and address, plus either of the following:

A Social Security number and a valid credit card.
A Federal Tax ID/Employer Identification Number (EIN).
Google Checkout merchants can ship goods inside and outside the United States. U.S. buyers and buyers in a limited number of countries outside the United States can sign up for the service and make purchases (in U.S. dollars) through Google Checkout.

We're working toward making Google Checkout more widely available in the near future. At this time, however, we cannot provide any details regarding when Google Checkout will be available in specific countries.

Do you know of an alternative method of signing up for merchants outside the USA?

You're right, I can't register as a reseller either, my bad.

it's a pity, though, that google checkout isn't available yet (for everyon).

the online payments market, especially the micropayments market, really needs more competition...paypal appear to have the market sewn up and know they won't lose customers because there is nobody comparable to move to if the service isn't up to scratch.

mobile telco's are still charging extortionate comissions - as much as 70% of the transaction in some cases - for handling small payments and don't look like they'll budge from that.

hopefully google checkout will come out sooner (for everyone) rather than later...I think they will have the brand power and kudos to bring a bit of competition into that market.

Well, I have a google checkout module that works using the vcolo and gregphoto.net code that has been posted online (I've honestly lost track of where the code came from because I have been looking at so many different examples). I _just_ got it working like 5 minutes ago and it still needs much work, but process-wise it actually works. Are there any developers that would like a look at it to maybe contribute? It isn't fully integrated into drupal... the merchant id and key comes from a config, though it is set up in ec_settings - I just haven't fully integrated it. Also, purchases are completed, but not checked off as complete in drupal just yet. At any rate, the framework is there and I'm going to continue to work with it, but I wanted to offer what I have to anyone who might want a crack at making it better or helping out. not sure if you can get at my contact info. Mike Reed - mlreed328@gmail.com if you are interested.

Our site goes live in a few days and we would really, really like to have a module for Google Checkout. With the free processing through the end of the year, and then the for every $1 Adwords = $10 Free Processing, what a great value.

Just updating this thread....google checkout is now available for the UK as well as the USA. Hopefully it means that they are past the beta/testing stage and are ready to roll it out to more countries soon.

I'm from South Africa, where we can't even use PayPal as Payment Gateway.

Just tried to register to use Google Checkout for taking payment - it only lists USA and UK as country.

Any other options for International Payment Gateweways?
(Usually the services allow USA/Canada/UK/etc, but not South Africa)

Would be highly appreciated. ; ))

Hi I'm also in RSA, I'm not into Drupal, yet as I've just started playing with JOOMLA, however, I am relatively involved with Affiliate Marketing. As such I've done some research and Found that both Moneybookers (www.monebookers.com) & SETCOM (www.setcom.com) have payment gateways that work in RSA (i.e. they not only work, but you can draw your funds out of their holding accounts for a small fee).

Hope this helps

I have a (so far partially functional) Google Checkout payment module for e-Commerce under development at http://drupal.org/project/gcheckout

It's not for the faint of heart, it's still in a phase of heavy development and testing, but patches and feedback from other developers and testers would be appreciated.

great work mfb. good to see more payment modules available for drupal ecommerce api.
