Released! Offline Drupal Handbook and API Documentation

One of the benefits of joining the Drupalse Group at Linkedin.com is that members get first notice of updates and changes to "How to do Everything with Drupal". This is an ebook that contains all the Drupal.org Handbook pages and the API documentation. The book is in CHM format which gives features like search, indexing and bookmarking on windows platforms. This compartmentalized version of the documentation will make learning and using Drupal easier and more convenient. At present the file size is just under 50mb of compressed HTML pages and graphics. Some pages are long but this will be adjusted in later versions.

This is a work that takes a lot of effort to produce. An on going effort to make the ebook a complete self-contained archive with very few link to the web. There are also costs involved in hosting the download. To keep it free and available please think about donating or sponsoring the effort. You can read more about sponsorship and advertising.

Contribute to Drupal by adding your content to the Offline documentation!

I am finding a lot of great articles and tutorials on Drupal spread throughout the web. Please get in touch with me if you want to add your content to the Ebook, " How to Do Everything with Drupal.

Benefits to you are:

  1. More exposure for your online presence with no danger of losing your standing by duplicating content at Google. In other words free advertising for your website.
  2. More focused and direct attention to your content in the right context. I am sorting the content in categories that are standard in the industry. There will be no "Creative titles to sections that leave you lost as to what the content is about". I will strict categories like:
    • Information Architecture
    • Search Engine Optimization
    • Web Design
    • Programming
    • Performance and Optimization
    • Data source Design and Construction
    • Service Oriented Architecture
      more....
  3. Your chance to contribute to the Drupal Community and spread the word about Drupal at no financial cost.

If you can, provide a picture of yourself or group with a short profile.

Some ways are listed

Some ways are listed in the starting post but you want to get into the more advanced stuff like fixing links and downloading web pages to match them then you can contact me via my Drupal.org contact form. I am looking for people that know how use tools like HTTrack and Windows Help Tool. You should also know how to use the Drupal Doxygen API tool and Advanced Help module as later there will be need to extract some documentation from third-party modules.

If I can get organized in time then I will post a Google Summer of Code proposal.
