Hey guys...

I'm pretty new to web development... probably one of my weakest areas is themeing and design.

As you can see from my spcialial interest site - The Real Mind I need some pointers on making a site look nice ;)

This is the first website I've ever made (I have a few others I'm working on now) and as such I use it as my "sandbox" for web-design.

I would appreciate any pointers on making it look better. As a friend pointed out recently - it kinda looks "8-bit" as in too high-contrast.. and not very smooth.

I've fiddled about with the CSS in firebug but I cannot get it looking smooth and I'm at a loss as to what the cause is.

Any assistance, pointers or opinions GREATLY appreciated.

Cheers!

Rich

Hi there. Just had a quick browse. The site overall looks pretty good, maybe just change the top image/logo (dark-blue on black background and dark-red on black make it slightly hard to see). Also, your navbar/drop down menu bar could maybe do with being either a slightly different colour, or at least showing a different colour background. You could look over the net for a few colour palettes which might compliment each other more adequately?

I usually find a black background is slightly daunting, potentially a light grey(#CCCCFF)/or pastel blue (#A8ECEF) would be more appropriate? Just an idea?

Hi Will,

Thanks for the input. I'm working on some new ideas now. I think the black background may have to change. As you can see I've already brightened the main logo and changed the menu.

I would like to make the menu look a little more integrated into the page design but I don't quite have the CSS skill to make that happen just yet.

I think it's starting to look a little more "well fitting"/smooth rather than high contrast/8-bit.

Cheers,

Rich
