Location CCK - gmap display, whats the status?

After lot of trying, reviewing and having mixed resulsts. I am wondering what is the status of CCK location field and its proper display in node?

I am only assuming, but think i am not wrong when i say that main reason to use CCK location is to show gmap in node in specific location. But think this main function of location CCK is not working. I tried different patches and versions but none of them working perfectly. There is also a lot of patches reguarding views display of location. Anyway i would like to know what is the status here. Is there a version of patch + version of module that works perfectly for displaying gmap in node so that i can theme it and display it in right position or should i settle for other solution. Also think this issue is asked and commented so many times in forum, unless you try many patches you really dont know much so i am hoping this will be resolved soon and there will be some order in this :-)
