Can someone explain CVS??

I'm a newbie to Drupal and I don't quite understand how CVS works. Can someone explain its purpose and process? Thanks!

drupal.org tries to maintain documentation long term information in the handbooks. It does get overwhleming at times but here's the path for this...

CVS concepts page.

CVS isn't Drupal, it's a tool used by Drupal developers.
