I don't really know what I'm looking for here. I think I'm after free web hosting at a place that also offers domain name registration for $10.00 a year or less. Don't need e-mail or anything like that, but hosting should have a high bandwidth allowance. I don't need a lot of space or anything. Any suggestions?

You won't get even close to acceptable web hosting for free (or $10/year). It's very unlikely Drupal will run successfully on hosting that is free or that cheap (Drupal requires a minimum amount of 16mb of memory to run (and more depending on the modules you install), and even at $5/mo or less you are not likely to be allotted that much memory with many hosts. Also a free or super cheap host won't likely have PHP 5.2 installed, or may be lacking in other important requirements for Drupal. I'd recommend budgeting at least $5/mo, or $10/mo if possible for hosting any Drupal website. See http://drupal.org/requirements

I just wanted to let you know that while you may be correct in most circumstances, but you are not entirely correct. I have started my site, not the one I'm looking for hosting and domain name registration, but my personal gaming site at this host:

I've had no problems with them for the last few months, except that I've recently been unable to run cron. Oh and I get weird errors from that seem to have something to do with their advertising when I run update.php. Still my site has never been down, never been slow, and I got plenty of room. It took me a while to find them, but I have a list of other good candidates too. Trouble is they don't have domain name registration included as far as I can tell. I guess for the site I need this for I have to have some sort of all-in-one hosting/domain name registration package.

To everyone else, thanks for the links and info so far, I will look into it. But I really need an all-in-one hosting/registration package, if something like that exists, in a reasonable annual rate.

I don't see why you MUST have an all-in-one hosting + registration package. That's really not necessary. Buy the domain name at GoDaddy, and then host it wherever you want. It's super easy.

Their main benefit is you can do practically everything on the command line which is the Drupal gurus preferred way of working. You can do practically anything on your account, so long as you don't bring down their servers.
They also have a one click install if that meets your needs.

If after the first year you still need $10 hosting you can then move to another provider.

just checked this site, they say just for today there doing a year hosting with free domain for $9.24.

and you are suggesting a hosting of cost 7$ per month. May be you have read it like he wants hosting 10$ per month.

@OP, NO good hosting will be able to provide you a Good, reliable drupal hosting for 10$ per year. I will suggest you to increase your budget.

that hosting company looks like every other generic "we tell you it's unlimited but we don't really mean it" companies out there.

And I checked the WhoIs record, and it's owned by "Domains by Proxy, Inc." which isn't a good sign for a host.
