How to make user see some fields and not others in her profile

Hi,

I would like to be able to make the profile more granular. What is meant is this. On the profile I have some fields that should be editable by the owner, but also some fields about subscription that should not.

So what I need is when the user edits his profile he might perhaps see the subscription field content, but he cannot edit them.

How could I accomplish this?

Could I make the subscription another content-type, instead of today a multigroup under the Content Profile content-type? Then I could show the subscription content type as a ViewField, And then fix this by permissions in views. I know how this is done but I have never succeeded in making ViewField work.

Any help is appreciated.
