This module is a smart idea to take advantage of versatility of Drupal variables.

Just an idea and requests, to be hopefully considered
would it be feasable to include a css editor (one example as on the link below) so this module can become more of a theme editor, so the variables can have css classes too(subsequently dropping need for node.tpl.php to obsolite)

CSS editors of that nature are out of the scope of this module - sorry mate. It would be interesting to interface with one however..

As for a drop-down UI, I´m not sure I understand what you mean. Please explain.

The initial idea with this module was to interface with the sections module. But this requires changes to the sections module which thus far haven´t materialised.

I´ll be going ahead shortly and adding a feature to save "style" options as schemes which can be chosen via drop-downs.
