It is an excellent checklist of modules specifically geared for SEO. Should give you a great SEO foundation for your site.

To answer your question, could you please explain what you mean by "really works" and "return results."

For example, are you expecting a module that will move your site into the top ten hits of a Google search? Or do you need something else?

Sorry for the confusion, but what I have in mind is a module that as you have said, move my site up in search engine. I know that some of the SEO module need to be tested for sometime and Im not sure which one does really work.

Thank you so much

No problem, I only want to be able to give you an accurate answer. The fact is that there is no module that will move your site up in the search engine results. The only reliable way to do that is to add new content to your site every day -- content that internet users will find interesting, appealing and useful. There are many drupal modules that can make it easier for search engines to find and index your site. But the content of the site is the critical factor, as far as I understand.

The thing that will move your site to the top of the results is called research and offsite optimization.

You need to research the keywords that will be part of your content. You need to use the keywords in the appropriate places; paths, page titles, page description, header and sub headers of your page content, Then you need to keep your keyword density within proper limits All that is for you site. Then you need to do link building with the proper keywords in your incoming links.

Drupal Modules: Nodewords and the Title module will help you. Also the path module or the pathauto module. Giving your pages, descriptive and meaningful names is helpful. Having content that people will talk about is very important. Relevance of the keywords in the page name and title to the content is important.

Besides the modules, the most important thing is knowing which keywords people are searching for and how competitive the keywords are. You need to be smart in picking which keywords you use.

To get started on the keyword research you will want to use:

Hope that helps you.

Search engine ranking factors:
http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors

A lot of these factors will have to do with the quality of your HTML (theme) and the site’s content structure.

When it comes to modules, you’ll want to make sure that your site is serving pages in a way that is friendly to search engines. For instance, some modules can help avoid content duplication, make your urls friendly, help with titles and metatags and produce a sitemap.xml for your site.

The SEO Checklist, as mentioned, is a great place to start. You might want to read up on SEO and online marketing as well.

Content is king. If you write it, they will come.

**The first rule to SEO is to provide relevant, interesting content**
- if you dont provide interesting stuff- no one will want to visit anyway.
- you need to make sure it is well written, but you have to keep in the back of your mind the specific keyphrase you are targeting.
- you have to make sure your site is well designed and that the article is easily read by the visitor
- Ideally, you want the visitor to STAY on your site. Not just glance at it and move on.

**The second rule is to set-up your site to make it easy for the search engines to FIND that content**
Drupal does that pretty well by default, but there are a bunch of things you can do to improve that. Some of the SEO modules will help you discover the things you might be doing wrong, but **no one module will do it all for you**. The title of the page is essential. Metatags are useful, but not critical (the description tag only). You need to use htaccess and make sure your robots.txt is configured correctly. Use of breadcrumbs is useful. The pathauto module is great.

**The third rule is to "advertise" that content**
Well, if you write great content, people will do that for you. However, you need to get your site listed in DMOZ, Yahoo and a few others. Some are paid, some are free. DMOZ will take ages to get listed. Yahoo will cost $300 or so. You should also list with relevant directories, for example - I list my Australian sites with good, free local directories like hotfrog. List your business on google maps. Put a video on YouTube. Leave your comments on RELEVANT blogs and DON't make it spammy.... And don't forget - list your site on your business cards, email signatures and event submit some editorials to newspapers, magazines etc... Print is not *quite* dead.

So in short. SEO is WAAAAY more than just metatags or a simple, single drupal module. It has become a lot more complex. You will see good returns on setting up your Drupal site correctly, but the rest will come through linking and WRITING GOOD CONTENT. There are various articles on what modules to use etc here on drupal.org but the rest is basic SEO knowledge which you can get from reading up on it. Try http://forums.seochat.com/. I have gotten a lot of good info from here.

Chris, thanks for posting that. I wasn't aware that there was a module that did readability analysis. That's huge. Can't wait to play around with this.

Happy New Year!
