It would be useful to have an file upload bar which would progress while the user entered data into the note like there is for other content types.

I thoroughly agree. Video files are large, and take a long time to upload. Users need some feedback on that process.

sure. ajax uploading (similar to the upload module) would be really really good.

I plan to add this feature for next versions.
