Right now I am with GoDaddy with their 5GB storage 250GB Bandwidth plan. I am planning a large site, and I need at least 20GB of storage. Right now I can hold about 450 users if they are all using their allotted storage space for pictures, up to 1000 if none of them have pictures. I would like support for at least a few thousand. I looked at brinkster as reccomended by someone else, but their biggest package (for$20) is the same size as what I have right now (for $4). I don't really want to stay with GoDaddy because they are very unfriendly to Drupal and are very unwilling to budge on anything, but I can't afford a dedicated hosting plan, which is all I can find anywhere else with more than 5gb of storage. GoDaddy offers 100GB of storage and 1000GB of bandwidth for $15/mo. Can any host beat or match that?

1and1
I have posted about 1and1 here: http://drupal.org/node/46707#comment-95222.
They offer a developers package with:
-5 domain names
-150 GB
-3000 emails
-1500 GB traffic
for $19.99 pm.
I've been very happy with them for 3 years now. Drupal runs perfectly.
If you search drupal for 1and1 you will find there are other people with some not so good comments on 1and1 but I have had no problems and very good support from them.
Note : Here is my affiliate link to 1and1.com
Edit: the one drawback I should mention is that the mysql db's are only 100 MB each but you get 100 of them.
Why not trying Infomaniak.ch
I've transfered my ex-ovh hosted site to Infomaniak.ch.
They offer 2 interesting things :
- 50 GB (database included which means that you are not limited for database size)
- You don't pay everything if you can prove that you are paying another hosting service somewhere (ie you are paying $100 per year and it's 6 months you paid for it to your actual provider. It means you are not gonna pay your infomaniak service before the end of the 6 pending months. In my case it was 11 months and i don't pay anything)
Service is good, admin console is correct and they answer very quickly. After, you pay €120 / year.

Why not trying Infomaniak.ch
Infomaniak.ch, which I have used for a couple of years now, has a major drawback:
Their ftp does not work well. If you try to upload (or download, for that matter) any significant amount of data there are ALWAYS problems with the transfer, regardless of the ftp client you use.
These errors then need to be rectified manually - a major pain - and you are still never sure whether the integrity of the files is intact.
Don't touch them with a barge-pole.
There are many out there, but the difficulty is to know which.....
I am going to move my own and those of my clients to another hosting as soon as that is feasible.

aplus.net
aplus.net has an offer for 170GB for $7.46/mo for the first three months and $9.95/mo after that. I personally have not used this service but I am looking for hosting and this is currently at the top of my list. Can anyone verify that aplus.net is drupal friendly? (they have a CM4all solution that comes with the hosting package, but I don't know if they discourage other CMS systems)

Seriously
Seriously, my jaw just hit the floor. This is almost a dedicated server (in terms of what you get)! 170 GB storage, 2000(!)GB bandwidth, 3300 email boxes (I thought the 500 with godaddy was great), 2 FREE Domain Names, Free $25 Adwords coupon. There is a $20 setup fee, but it is still an amazing deal! Just hope that after the 3 months they don't drop your bandwidth and storage when they raise the price. I will most definatly be looking into this further. They seem to be alright as a host, they were on C|Net's top hosting companies list.
Let me know!
Yeah I had pretty much the same reaction you had when I first saw this deal. I'm still not 100% sure I'm going to go with them but the reality is I haven't seen anything that could match this. If you end up switching to them post back and let us know how it works out for ya! TIA B~
I like Hostony
I've used Hostony for the last 4 years and have been really happy with their service.
http://hostony.com/hosting.html
I've set up a couple Drupal sites with them, and they've been great. They have price breaks for paying in advance, so for example, if you wanted 30GB disk space, 400GB bandwidth, mysql, ftp, unlimited email addresses (w/ configurable spam filters), etc. it would be like, $77 for 6 months ($12.85 a month).
Tech support response has always been very fast for me. They're russian, and in my experience they don't care what kind of site you have. I had trouble finding a host for my witchcraft/pagan/occult site, and it was such a relief when I asked them about it and they said it was no problem.
I use Servage....

Price $9.49 per month... canadian
im a website newbie... and i havnt had any problems with them yet in 3 months.
and i havnt had to contact tech support yet either.

I think this is what I will
I think this is what I will go with. The aplus.net site has a fairly bad repuation with bbb.org. As much as I want everything they are offering, they most likely oversell to the max, and I would never get that much anyway. I don't like how servage restricts bandwidth to 37gb per day, but I guess by the time I am using that much I should be able to afford a more permenent solution, and a more expensive server. And of course I will use your referral link ;P
restricts 37Gb per day ?
oh... wasnt aware of that... well its not like my site is anywheres near that limit.. lol.
'Anyway.... im glad i could help... they also have dedicated servedr plans also.

And another interesting feature:
Servage Webdrive
As addition to common uploading methods such as FTP and HTTP we also offer the Servage Webdrive. This feature enables you to mount your hosting account as a drive (e.g. S:) on your local PC.
Virtual Hard Disk
Use your Servage account for personal documents and files. You can access your data from any Internet connected PC. No more need for USB keys, CDs and Disks.
In many cases it is inconvenient to use a normal FTP client when creating scripts or websites as each change must be manually uploaded.
Easier Web Programming
Creating and updating scripts is easy when your hosting account is mounted as drive. Webdrive allows you to use your favorite editor and simply save your changes and the changes are applied to your hosting environment – instantly!
With Webdrive you can take full advantage of the high amount disk space included in your account. You are no longer limited to hosting only your website and email but can also use your account as external storage!

That is pretty good for a dedicated server, but I live in the US and would rather not have my server in the EU, sorry. Might be helpful if someone reading this is in the EU.
aplus.net
I have been in frequent contact with my "prospective account manager" from aplus.net, asking him numerous questions (essentially trying to figure out what the scam is). And the guy seems really honest, and he always emails me back within like 30min during buisness hours or just after 8am the next day if after 6pm or so.
So I am pretty impressed with their customer service at least on the sales side (although I am getting the impression that this is a VERY sales driven company).
I bugged him about the cheap introductory price and if the service changes when the price goes up, and apperently everything about the service stays the same except after 3 months the price goes from 7.46 to 9.95/mo.
He said drupal is not directly supported by their tech support but that it "is often tested on their servers" and should work fine... (The only cms software they directly support is a CM4all package that is hooked into the hosting admin panel).
I noticed someone posted about them not having a very good rating from bbb.com, I read the bbb listing and it was surely not very encouraging, but I really think I am going to take a leap here and sign up.
I guess after I sign up I'll post back with the refer link. hehehe.
how about this
Have you looked at ElaHost?
5Gig storage, 500Gig transfer, unlimited email accounts, unlimited mysql (not sure about database size), unlimited subdomains, free unlimited 24/7 tech support, and it's 9.95 a month with 16% off if you committ for one year (so like $100 a year). I just saw it because somebody advertised it in another post, but I have similiar needs and I'm thinking about getting it.

Give dreamhost a try i m
Give dreamhost a try i m using them and i pretty happy with the service
Dreamhost
I currently have Dreamhost, and I'm hoping someone can save me a lot of potential headaches by just giving me their current status on Drupal.
I've had a LOT of problems with Dreamhost relating to mass mail programs and seemingly simple news aggregators. I decided to install CivicSpace in the hope that an active open source community had programmed their way around Dreamhost. When I looked for instructions to set up the mailhandler, I found all sorts of complaints about Dreamhost and their hobbled PHP. Most of these posts are from 2005, though. Does anyone know if Dreamhost still sucks in this regard? Should I just cut my losses and run away as fast as I can? Or have they taken steps to meet the Drupal community halfway?
They do claim that "lots" of people are running Drupal sites on Dreamhost, but I find that very unlikely if no one can set up the mailhandler.
NO! aplus.net must be STOPPED!!!
First visit the BBB in San Diego

Then do a search on Google for aplus.net and the following words: scam, unethical, fraud

Im not saying Aplus is good
Im not saying Aplus is good for you, but ive never had a problem with them. Currently i have a $99 a month dedicated server with them, and ive never had a problem. I signed up, and in 8 hours i had my server.
Keep in mind that theyve been in business for 14 years
More than 200,000 customers
More than 500,000 domains registered
More than 4,000 dedicated server customers
You are bound to have a mix up, and customers tend to be very harsh. Its up to you, but personally ive never had a problem
Also, please be careful when taking advise from people who give you an affiliate link. They will get paid if they reffer you to a service. I see a lot of guys in this thread including affiliate links. Its best you not trust their opinion :)
Fsh Hosting - Unlimited Hosting Package
This is a plug for my own hosting service, however as part of the Drupal community, I hope you will all consider using Fsh Hosting to host your drupal sites - I can guarantee Drupal works with Fsh Hosting as I am running around 12 websites myself with Drupal.
I have just set up as a reseller, and one of the web hosting packages we offer is an unlimited hosting package. You can compare all of our hosting packages on the Fsh Hosting website
