I would possibly be interested in coming on board to help develop this module and to release a 6.x version at some point in the future. Assuming, of course, that's ok with the present maintainer.
I am however not a realtor, broker, etc. and have no interest in becoming one. I just want to provide a site that allows users to search real estate online. So the question is, what is the best way to get an MLS membership just so I can use VieleRETS? I would be happy to pay an online site a monthly fee to get access... or if I have to, I can physically go somewhere to sign up (I'm in Silicon Valley).
Any help from the MLS experts out there?

syndicateStorm commentedFor further clarification: If I want a national search will I need multiple MLS memberships in various regions? is there a comprehensive list of MLS regions somewhere?
Sorry for my ignorance, any guidance is appreciated.

Regarding a D6 port: see issue #357956: Drupal 6.
Regarding getting access to a RETS feed: in the Bay Area, you'll have to deal with BAREIS. They currently require sponsorship from a member realtor to get access to their data. See the information under "Agents" here: http://www.bareis.com/websites
While they mostly refer to IDX in the documentation, they do provide a Rapattoni RETS feed. You can get more useful information from Rapattoni: http://www.rapattoni.com/supp/mls/rets/default.asp
I'm not an expert on national MLS implementations, but it's very likely that you'll have to deal with multiple MLS data providers, some of which may have restrictions on mixing their data with that from other sources.

carealtor360 commentedYes, you would have to join multiple MLS's to get the RETS feeds. MLS's across the country our currently merging in hopes to create statewide MLS feeds, however, this is a very complicated process. For now, you have to pay hundreds for each mls OR have a member of each MLS sign a form to give you the feed as their developer which should be much less.
I am a broker in california and currently working to try to build a nationwide mls powered site. I'd be interested in speaking with anyone who wants to work on this together.
