basic installation : script does not start in web browser - help a newbie

I point my browser at document root and I get "it works" - not the installtion script.

it is in document root /srv/www/htdocs
as specified in apache2 configuration.

what am I missing ?

permissions are 777 and www wwwrun

installation document is fairly useless to me in this state, I need to be
a seasoned apache admin ..... which I am not.
