Flag friends is buggy; user relationships is too broad and needs too much configuring out of the box, so after a little more research I opted for Friendslist. I want the basic features of a social network: the ability to add friends and track their activities, and friendslist appears to have the tools I need to develop these features quickly.
That said, everything looks great, except for one thing: how in the %$#@ do I add friends? It's like the module's primary function, right?
The permissions are set, blocks activated, and nothing. No "add friend" in the user profile. That's one feature the previously mentioned modules did at least, on the surface, cover. (They also get bonus points for integrating buttons with author pane.)
What gives?
I need friends, people.

Yea, bad link. The individual you're referring to was trying to use flag friend with friendslist.
I think my problem may be a little deeper rooted than checking a permissions box, which I rarely overlook doing anyway(or at least catch as much before posting to the forums).
No relationships are possible without the add friend button.
I need the freakin' button. I need friends.
