Is it possible to add a feature to leave certain taxonomies out of the advanced search selection list? Especially the ad-group taxonomy is something that users will normally never use.

What do you mean by "ad-group taxonomy"?

Some taxonomies aren't of any interest to visitors, so it would be nice if an admin could hide these from the advanced search.

I used the taxonomy created by the Advertisement module as an example, but I'm sure there are more taxonomies that people wuld like to have hidden in advanced search.

I don't know the Advertisement module, does it create a new taxonomy vocabulary?
So in fact, you're asking me to be able to decide which vocabularies are displayed in the advanced search on the results page, am I right?

I've added a new option in the "Results page" settings, to apply the same settings from the regular search to the advanced search form.
So if you don't want a taxonomy vocabulary to be displayed in the advanced search, just check the option and make sure to disable the taxonomy vocabulary in the Custom Search "Taxonomy" settings page.
I've just committed this in the DEV release, so test it and tell me if it works for you.
