- in user/permissions give "access secured pages" permission to role X
- drush disable securesite
- drush enable securesite
- the user/permissions setting is lost (must reconfigure permission)

Closing, I now realize that the "problem" was related
to my permissions setup. Not a bug really. My apologies.

Could please explain how your "permissions setup" may have messed up permissions. I have recently transferred by site from localhost to a live server as well as updated the server PHP. After the update was completed the MySQL server was left off accidently. When it was turned back on all my permissions were messed up including admin.

I eventually fixed the issue by rebuilding permissions but several attempts were blocked by "access denied" messages. I thought the issue was fixed but after leaving the site untouched for a couple days and then trying to log in as admin again I had the same permissions issues and trouble with rebuilding the permissions again.

I have secure site set up so that all pages require user log in. Could this be causing an issue? When I experience the permission issue, any page I want to navigate to even after the initial login, requires further login authentication. It seems like a bug.

Suggestions?

I am sorry, but I can't help you here. Currently I am not using Secure Site
any more, and after a year I can't recall the details for this issue...
I should have dropped a note when I closed the issue.
