I have Drupal 4.7 on Site5 hosting. I didn't make any changes to the site but it started showing blank pages. None of the pages of the site can be viewed, except /robots.txt and /sitemap.xml (generated by gsitemap module with a URL alias). The pages are completely blank with no HTML sent to the browser.
Response headers: 200 Ok
I downloaded the entire Drupal site and installed it locally. It works fine here. The site was working on Site5's servers earlier today, but now it just sends blank pages. I didn't modify the site between the time it was working and the time that it wasn't working.
Any ideas?
(bad luck with hosting companies lately)
UPDATE: 5 years later, I'm still with Site5. They were sold a few years ago and I've only had the best experiences since then. They are actually my favorite place to host Drupal sites, because the customer support is now fantastic and Drush is preinstalled. I saw this post in Google and wanted to update the thread, because it's outdated.

Similar problems
No surprise with Site5. They have trouble handling drupal sites and the sites just go blank because the resources aren't running properly. When this happened to me Site5 told me it was a "runaway script," but like you I hadn't made changes in days.
Did Site5 ever deliver that "Flashback" feature they've been selling for months (though it isn't working on live sites yet)? Of course, this wouldn't have happened to either of us if they had delivered their "RapidReflex" system that they also advertised to entice people into signing with them, but never actually launched.
No problems here
I'm hosted with Site5 and love them! I get great support, both through the forums and through customer service, and I've never had any drupal issues. If I had, it was always something that I had done. I don't doubt your troubles, but I wanted to balance the comments here. I've been on THREE Site5 servers over the last several years, and run Drupal on at least two of them.
Have you contacted support?

Site5 and Drupal
Yes... Every time I contact their "24 hour technical support" it takes 24 hours to hear back from them, even if it is an emergency like a site offline. Site5 is great so far, except for the lack of phone support. I have no idea if anyone is reading my emails, and my site has been offline for at least 7 hours already. I would not recommend any hosting company that does not have phone support.
I have several Drupal sites working on Site5 with no problem. One of them suddenly stopped working.
I'm having bad luck with hosting companies lately (see my other post about bluehost.)
Pair Networks has telephone
Pair Networks has telephone support and is very stable most of the time. I hosted for 3 years with them and only moved to Site5 because of the lower costs.
Another thing they have
Another thing they have discontinued quietly is their Reseller service. Didn't so much as care to inform their reseller customers- I am one.
Site5 Flashback Feature
Whatever happened to that Flashback feature? I paid for it, but have never seen it.
Standard Practice for Site5
I know. It's amazing that they would so heavily advertise features that don't exist. Maybe Drupal should do the same:
Bad experience with Site5 as well
Jasonwhat, exactly! Whatever happened to RapidReflex? That's why I signed with Site5 too. My experience has been pretty much identical to yours.
Site5 yanked my Drupal site on May 23, and I've heard very little from them about it. They've responded to about 2/3 of my emails, and not promptly either. They just said "check your scripts" and that was it in terms of analysis of the logs, interpretation of the problem, recommendations of solutions. Niiice. So, here are the things I've done to try to cut down server resource usage (keep in mind that I pay for unlimited usage).
* Deleted all seven of my subdomains (some Drupal sites, some WordPress, a Moodle, a TikiWiki, a Coppermine)
* Upgraded to Drupal 5.1 (from 4.7.3)
* Reconfigured my robots.txt file so that ONLY Google can crawl my site
* Disabled the modules I had on my site that generated dynamic content and were heavy on the database querying (the monthly archives module, the tagadelic module)
* Changed to php4 as per this post
I am at my wits' end with these people. I had already gotten rid of trackbacks and anonymous commenting before signing on with Site5 after my experience with OpenSourceHost, who told me they couldn't host my site anymore. ALL I WANT IS A BLOG. Jeez. A little, single-authored blog.

Down with Site5...
The biggest gripe I have with Site5 is their attitude toward customers. I feel like they're blowing me off every time I submit a support ticket. Today my Site5 server, which hosts 15 different accounts, has been down for 10 hours, and when I send an email to get a status I get an email back (4 hours later) telling me I don't need to create a ticket for site outages! Throw me a frickin' bone, people. I have my clients jumping down my throat, and I can't ask how it's going? If you don't want a support ticket, how about giving me a phone number to call? One that people actually answer...
Anyway, if I can ever get my files off their server, I'm leaving for good. There are much better hosting companies out there, even if you have to pay a little more.
And for other people considering Site5, I've dealt with every problem mentioned in this thread, so I also want to say ditto... and STAY AWAY!!!

I have to admit that the sevice of site5 has dropped major notches since the top teir of managment moved on. I too won't be renewing my service with them.

what?
You don't want to spend an extra $1 to get your support ticket moved up in the queue??? /grin/ cheapskate /grin/
I've been watching the site5 support forum and there have been a lot of criticism regarding their support there. At least, one day there way. It looks like some of those posts were... moved. (I can't verify this, but I've noticed this in the rss feed.) And they keep having the same servers down over and over again. It's a bad cycle.
I've been with site5 for a few years now. I haven't needed support lately, so I don't know first hand how bad it's been. But I was on a bad server last year (limitbreaker) and nothing was done about the problems I had. Then I switched plans and they put me on a decent server.
But now they have The Plan to End All Plans, and it scares me. It's one of those so-called almost unlimited plans. Which means "Use all the space and bandwidth you want, but if your sites get to popular we'll shut you down and not tell you why." And that scares me. And add the $1 to prioritize support requests, and I'm gone soon.
silverwing - if you're using php5, you can add the memory-limit 32M to a file to help your sites run a bit better. But they may shut you down for that

Drupal friendly hosting
Hi silverwing,
This is probably because they are running outdated servers with limited resources... or may be too much profit focused :)
Also they never reveal their server hardware and software configuration, which is very important.
The shared hosts should provide:
1. Upfront server configuration
2. Realtime server load tracking
3. Test file downloads to check bandwidth port speed
For example, on my company's website The above can be checked by all visitors in real time, any time of the day!
These things should be transparent to the customers for all hosts.

Servers/software
Site5 does indeed reveal their server hardware and what software they have configured. Not only have I see it on their site, it's been posted in the forums.
Not that I am a big fan of them right now. They've apparently changed something regarding how they block suspected hackers, and now everyone's getting blocked from their own sites.

John you should really kiss and make up
I've seen you hounding Steve(Amit) all around these forums. The problem is you are both as bad as each other (except Steve is openly saying he works for DVH - where as you affiliate link to AN Hosting without mentioning you'll benefit). Why don't you both make up or simply agree to leave each other alone?
I'm on your side in that they are not open and transparent about being an Indian company, supported in India. But, I'm on their side in that this doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing, and if their servers are being hosted in the US, why should anyone care if they get the performance and support.
You've both used these forums to try and benefit financially, and therefore, you are both being naughty in my book.
P.S. Look no links or anything - just all free and open opinion.
Huh?
Why are you digging up a thread that's 4 months old?
I was trying to find a host recommendation
And during my search I came across the tales of you vs Steve. I thought I'd mention it, but re-reading my post it hasn't come across as funny as I thought it would.
So please ignore it.
I do not believe it's
I do not believe it's necessary to post upfront server configuration. It all depends on how much you stress the server. With users using 9000GB, even a 32GB ram server can be slowed to a crawl. It all depends on if the server admin takes care of the server, and puts only the appropriate load on the server.
site5 hosting
That new site5 feature (pay $1 for expedited support) is an insult.
A recent site5 ticket took 3 weeks to get answered. Total time on the ticket was much longer than that. Site5 has a great control panel, but among the worst customer support.
Is there such a thing as a good cheap hosting company? I'm not sure if they exist.
Is there such a thing as a
I guess there isn't ;-)
I moved from Site5 about 18 months ago to a VPS on ServInt. They're not cheap, but they have a fantastic support ticket system and their telephone support is considered one of the very best, although I have never used it myself. And, they treat customers with a lot of respect, unlike Site5, who are constantly shooting themselves in the foot by insulting customers every which way they can.

it slowed my responses
It actually slowed down my support when I used this feature...
I am planning to fight the $1.00 change... it's only a buck, but it's the principle.
Plus, it's $1 more than my CMS :)
No MySQL 5
CiviCRM is now exclusively MySQL 5.
Site5 says:
"Unfortunately, we do not have a plan or ETA to upgrade to MySQL 5 at this point in time."
why doesn't that suprise me...
The quoted part in this comment explains a bit. Actually, none of Matt's post (that's quoted) makes much sense.
silverwing - left site5 back in November and never looked back...

The shame of it is, it may take site 5 losing customers in droves before they deliver on the proimises already made. Whatever happened to the server migrations that were supposed to take place LAST summer. :eyeroll:
I have a few more months left and I"m moving on. I'm sure I will return to site5 when they return to the leading edge.
