Well...the design is in my opinion lacking a lot. It feels as though it is incomplete and/or thrown together in a very short period of time. Also, the three boxes on the bottom half of the page look and feel (and function) just like Google Ads. Even though the first few options in each box are not ads but articles on the site, they is no way to differentiate which I (as a reader) would find very frustrating. Finally, when a user clicks on the title of an article on the homepage they should not be taken to the teaser. Having to click a link on the homepage, then a Read Article link on the next page feel silly and unorganized.

He does say it's a beta. The articles do kind of get lost in the ads, and it seems a little ad-heavy to me. There are also a lot of words on the article pages (in relation to white spaces)
I think the bare look is rather nice. Many people overdo their designs and make their pages look too busy.
I would say there is a fine
I would say there is a fine fine line between simplicity and nakedness in design terms. You can have a simple, elegant, and understated design that at least looks complete. Please, tell me if you aren't done with the design and I'll shut my yap.
But I still feel that the articles get lost far too easily in ads.

I want to style the article commentary page, obviously, and I also think the Google ads on the left and right are way too prominent. We'll see how it goes over the next week.

Uncluttered is the Idea
Yeah, I never like having cluttered pages! If I'm presenting information, I want the user to intuitively know where to go to get it. Or something like that. :)

DVKid, thanks for the feedback! The article title link is intended to take the reader to a commentary by the site owner first, and then link them to the article itself. It's not actually a teaser. Do you think it should be more wordy to differentiate or add value?
I feel right now it lacks
I feel right now it lacks usefullness. Granted, I'm not your site's audience as I don't really try to stay up on health matters. However, I'd say maybe add a screenshot from the site that you are linking to and some more info. And possible NEXT And BACK buttons to allow users to navigate from one article to the next swiftly so they can find what they want and ignore what they don't want.
Why not use more colors in
Why not use more colors in pastel and less clutter. I personally believe less is more :)
