It would be great to be able to limit the number of referrals that a user can have. For example, a user can only send a certain number of invites to the site.

AFAIK this isn't an invitation module. This would be and is a feature of the module named "invite".

This version of User Referral is not supported anymore. The issue is closed for this reason.
