I'm looking someone interested in developping an "Users' Proximity Module", using the existing code created by DLP (Distributed Library Project).

What could be useful for?

To aggregate users on phisical proximity: using the tool, each user can know how many other users are near him. It's a way to create "instant local communities".

Are there examples of existing code?

Yes. On 2004, DLP (Distributed Library Project) coded this idea.

Is there a DLP [Distributed Library project] module?

Hi There,

Now, as you might know, development on the DLP seems to have come to a halt, for one reason or another.

I have a current install of the DLP, using the software mentioned above at
www.compusquad.ie/gdlp

I'm thinking about redeveloping the site using Drupal, and developing some new modules or adapting others, to replicate the DLP software.

Now, My coding skills are almost non-existent, but I figured it would be a good project to cut my teeth.

Anyway, just putting this here as a note. I'll post here again if I get time to do this project.

though I imagine it would be a new module or two plus a 'site recipe' of how to put it together ...

hmmmm

when we get some time.
maybe putting together a list of modules that could help build this kind of thing.

I'm not really inolved with that project anymore.

But since I wrote that comment, I reckon most of the functionality could be achieved with views, cck, flag and rules modules
