Disable Editable Templates when theme override contemplate

I've twice been bitten by the fact that the node was already themed using phptemplate (in a node-nodetype.tpl.php file), but I didn't realize initially realize this because the GUI didn't warn me. It would be helpful if the contemplate module would at the very least check if the current theme uses these node-nodetype.tpl.php files and if one exists, then it should either:

a) remove the node template links
b) gray-out the node template links
c) display a warning message when the node template is edited
