Hey,

This are quick questions about e-mail notifications from www.drupal.org .

I noticed I can receive them only from project issues. Any possibility to get them also from groups and forums ?

To receive notification about new comments I need to post comment also. But in addition I have to go to 'Subscribe' tab in each project and setup notification to 'My own...'. Can I setup it once in my profile edit tab and avoid setting it each time I am interested in new project ?

How do you manage this ?
For me e-mail notifications is what keeping me up to date with drupal.org issues when I also write. I would like to have it also for this topic for example but have no idea where to set it up. The same for my groups posts comments.

In few words - how to setup drupal.org account to e-mail me about everything what's happening in the topics I also write?
In 4 words - just like Facebook does :)

Thanks.

The short answer is that there is no email notification available. This has been a matter of some debate here in the forums, as a quick search will demonstrate.

For now you will have to subscribe to a thread, then come back and check your account for updates.

Unless there is another way, but i do not think that there is. (NB: I am not sure why email notifications are disabled, but I suspect one reason is because it would merely encourage spammers, and as a consequence put an excessive load on the servers. The absence of email notification also encourages those who contribute to the forums to go through the effort of actually coming back to the site, and thereby encourages further participation, I'd imagine.)

To avoid spam ?
That's ridiculous. And makes the important responses much slower than it could be.

There are other methods to avoid spamming than limiting options for users.

Imagine what would happen if Facebook would do that. Stats would go down day after. E-mail notifications it's the most important option in a community site.

I know I can log in to my drupal account and track my account if there are new responses. This is what I did at the moment and HAVE TO do all the time.

Thanks for you response bwv. :) I hope Dries will come here , read this topic and make a CHANGE. ;)

I noted that "I suspect" one reason might be to discourage spammers. For the record, I did not state it as fact, as I do not, in fact, know the reason.

You will also note that when you click on the "Contact" tab in the upper right hand corner of this page, one of the drop down items is "Spam on Drupal." I would not jump to the conclusion that there is no anti-spam filtering on this site, although the presence of an email option suggests, again, an accent -- at least in part -- on drupal.org member initiative.
