New to Drupal. Sounds wonderful. I am no techy whatsoever. Can Drupal be installed on a localserver such as wamp 5 or xxamp so that I can take a preview of the difficulty or ease of setting up a photography website with it? If so, are there instructions anywhere to show me the proper, mistake free method of installation.

yes you can. it works perfectly with xampp.

A local Drupal installation is the same as any other. There's even a video of how to install 4.7 here on Drupal.org
