The profile fields created by the module are available in the user registration form but it ends there. They do not display on user profile page nor are they available when I edit a user profile.

I have tried changing all the settings for the fields but it doesn't help. I do see that the profile fields and values are stored properly in the database but in drupal those values are nowhere to be found. They are also not available to modules.

I've searched far and wide but I can't find any reports of similar problems, no-one else seems to have trouble with the profile module, might there be something wrong with my set-up?;

safe url's on, with pathauto.
Page cache disabled.

Goto administer/settings/profiles and cklick edit for one of the fields you added
Scroll down to "Visibility" and make check Public Field
