Hi:

I'm proposing two patches to correct some issues on the translations strings related to the Fahrenheit and Celsius temperatures, specifically in fr.po and es.po

The first patch "weather-fahrenheit-celsius-es-po.patch" is an extension of #720542: Weather temperature wrong display. In that issue only the interface was fixed, but the configuration page was still incorrect (3 times showing the option "Fahrenheit").

The second patch "weather-fahrenheit-celsius-fr-po.patch" addresses both aspects (interface + configuration) in the french translation file.

Hi,

thanks a lot for those patches, both are applied now. Please note that you need to remove the "fuzzy" flag from the translation, when you've updated it. I've done that for you in the commit.

Other than that, would you be interested in completing the Spanish and/or French translation? For Spanish, there are 16 strings left to translate, the French translation would need updates for 65 strings.

I'm new in this world of "contributing", so I'm learning on the road. I don't know what is the meaning of the "#, fuzzy" entry inside a translation file. Could you point me some place where I can read about the translations file specs?

I can help you with the spanish translation. Unfortunatelly I don't speak french, for the previous patch only logic was needed :-D

At the first chance, I will download the recent files from CVS, and try to lend a hand.

Hi,

the po file format is described here: http://www.gnu.org/software/hello/manual/gettext/PO-Files.html. The best approach would be to use a specialized program for translation (a "po file editor"). Such programs handle the various flags (e.g. "fuzzy") for you. An example program would be poedit (http://www.poedit.net/, available for Linux and Windows).

Hi:

After a whole day reading about this. Here is the finished es.po translation file. Let me know of any issues you may find.

I would like to say that:

  • There are several inconsistencies in the translations strings (at least in the weather conditions strings)
  • The translated name of the module could be changed to something more meaningful. Right now the translation "El Tiempo" is correct, but in spanish it must be used inside a context (which is not the case). So, IMHO I would change it to something like "Clima" (think about Climate) making it more accurate.
  • Maybe the whole translation file could be rechecked

PS: For the edition process I ended using Lokalize for KDE (just in case someone else reading, wants to get into the translation process).

Hi,

thanks a lot for the translation update! I've committed it to CVS. If you think that the Spanish translation could benefit from a more thorough check, please go for it. I'd be very happy to accept your changes. The last updates to that translation have been in 2008, so you can safely assume that the last translator has no longer time to maintain the file.

Hi,

yes, the weather.pot file is up to date. You can just download it from CVS. However, I'm always merging the changes from the pot file into all po files (the translations), so you might just start with es.po. That file contains all current msgids from the pot file.
