Aggregator2 isn't yet 4.7.

You really want to do one of two things, depending on urgency and budget...

a) Wait for a stable 4.7 Agg2 release.

b) Bounty a stable 4.7 release.

Thanks for your response. ---?????

1) I have the most recent CVS version of Aggregator2 installed, would this version be functional?

2) content aggregation is a fairly vital function for many Drupal sites/users, as such, can you recommend, if even on a short term basis until Agg2 is ready, an alternative which would allow a site to aggregate various content?

Thanking you in advance for all responses.

1) Any CVS is a work in progress, and not normally fully functional.

Avoid CVS for live sites, unless you have the coding skills to keep up with changes.

2) If it's urgent, and you can spare some money, offer a bounty for a stable Agg2.

That will probably be faster and better than takinga short term second best option.

I don't know what might be a good bounty - ask someone else.

You may be interested in a new version of agg2 that was recently released for testing by the current maintainer of agg2.

You can find it here:

http://drupal.org/node/77451

I have yet to install and test it, but the description of the new module looks very promising.

I would also recommend a bounty if you have the financial means. They can be very effective in open source development.

From the below link it appears like the bounty for the original agg2 module may have been only $100
http://drupal.org/node/18498

That's a bit on the low side, but gives you an idea.

Thanks Redraven, for the heads up!

I'd be willing to throw in $100 to instigate some interest in working on this module. It has a number of reported bugs to be worked out, and there are some feature requests that I would like to see, too.

Anybody else want to throw in? I know there are others out there who would really like to see this module advanced. Every little bit can help!

I see you posted about the new version of aggregator 2 on Aug 10 - read the posts after that date for all the bugs. Also the last lone developer hasn't been heard from in nearly a month now, it would appear that both aggretator2 and leech news are now abandoned.

If someone would come forward to fix the new leech news (not aggregator2, it was nothing compared to the new version) - I will also add to this bounty.

I am using leech news (with all the bugs) in a live 4.7.3 site today aggregating hundreds and hundreds of articles per day. To have all the issues with it fixed would be a godsend.

That's three of us now that would add to the bounty - is there a competent coder in the house?

=)

Hello,

Several have stated, including myself, a willingness to offer a bounty related to the completion of Agg2 or Leech news.

Seeking response from drupal/php experts.

Thanks,

Just wanted provide an update for all who have been seeking, waiting and anticipating updates for either Agg2, Leech News or both. Hope is not lost!!!!!

issue submit #8
by: Funana
dated: 9/4/06

From tracking the issue, Funana was an early user of Agg2 and its updated version, Leech news. From this early use, it appears that Funana experienced and worked out many of the bugs/error and submitted an updated version of the Agg2 file and has made a zipped rar file for upload and extraction.

While I have installed and enabled Agg2; Autotaxonomy and Agg2 logo modules in admin/modules, I have not configured as of yet. However, I have noted that neither of the (2) modules (Autotax & Agg2 logo) is currently kicking out errors upon simply enabling in admin/modules. This was not the case before as Autotaxonomy and Agg2 logo were causing error warnings simply by enabling the respective modules to the point, that each (autotax and Agg2 logo had to be disabled). During the aforemention period, the Agg2.module was operable, although with a few issues (bugs).

As such, it appears that much progress has been made to the point, maybe, that those who have been waiting or attempted a previous buggy version may have something that is workable now. In any event, it appears that the Agg2 module currently (as of 9/4/06) has more stable funcntionality then previously was the case.

Thank U, Funana!!!!!!!

Hope it works for all who really needed an advanced aggregation tool for their site.

this is some great work, but I would hold on before updating your code and patching just yet. I got email from the assigned developer of aggregator2 and the author or leech_news and he is coming back Sept 18!! Just want a little over a week for development to begin again and the bugs to get worked out in a brand new version of leech_news...

JT,

What are u utilizing in the mean time to handle content aggregation on your site?

Do u believe Leech News is or will be superior to the Agg2 module?

Does Leech News include the equivalent of Agg2.logo function? I believe that the functionality of the Agg2.logo module can be quite valuable

Thanking u in advance four your reply

forget about the whole thing - it's being replaced by feedparser in core...(being worked on now)

budda’s picture

Not quite Core..... but Feedparser is being worked on but some of the Leech features aren't going to be available straight away i'm afraid - at least not by me.
