As someone building a local community site, I'm always curious to see what other people do. I've found some here and there, mostly by accident, but was thinking that it would be nice to make a thread to gather them all.

I'll start us off with mine but keep in mind that it's not even close to being finished and this isn't meant to be a showcase about my site. :) Coulee Region Online covers the area of SW Wisconsin, SE Minnesota, and a bit of NE Iowa and NW Illinois.

Anyone else?

When I grow up, I hope I can make something like this.

If you're willing to write it, I'd love to see a writeup of how the site works. Panels on the home page (and all over the place)? OG for the groups? The profile pages are great!

How did you create the unanswered topics tab?

Some small problems.

In the night scene, the mascot (the bird thing) looks strange. The Go button on the community list looks misplaced. There's a content overflow on the home page. Firefox 3.5.9, Ubuntu, 1024x768, maximized browser window.

Took some screen shots. See them at http://coredogs.com/content/coulee-region-images

Oh, and I wasn't sure what the difference is between the Main Site and Home links.

Impressive work.

I plan on writing a detailed writeup once the site is done, hopefully by the end of summer. Still a ton more work to do on it.

Yeah, I use Panels on just about every page. I think the forum topic pages are the main exception. And those will likely be Panels eventually, too. OG for the groups, yeah. The profile pages are just slightly modified Advanced Profile Kit.

Unanswered topics is part of Advanced Forum.

Funny, I always liked how the logo looks on the night photo. That's my favorite of the rotation. I guess it's a matter of taste. :)

The Go button is broken because I added some more community subsites and the dropdown got wider. I need to get into the CSS and adjust the widths.

The content overflow I'm not sure what to do about. It only happens in Opera for me. Firefox, IE 8, and Chrome are all fine on Windows. I guess Firefox on linux is a bit different. I might make the boxes just a smidge taller.

The "Main site" link takes you back to the top level even when you're on a subsite. If you're not on a subsite then, yeah, it's the same as "Home".
