Recommender Overrides Cron - Cron Can't Run!

When I visit the admin status report page and press 'run cron manually', the page redirects to a recommender API batch job, when then lands on the recommender settings page. Revisiting the status report page shows that cron has not run. Invoking cron directly via cron.php results in the same actions.

Cron cannot run with recommender installed.
