Block View only for specific Roles

I've found loads of PHP code on how to achieve this or to only show the block to authenticated users but I think it would be very useful do add a section to the block configuration that allows the admin to choose which user Roles can see the block. There is already a setting for setting viewing privaleges for individual users but this control is too fine grained.
