I have built a complete Drupal 4.7.3 RPM to add Drupal (and about 20 common modules) to the Plesk "Application Vault". I've also built a testing environment for the build so the Plesk RPMs are pre-tested under Plesk 8.0.0, along with pre-installed patches which solve some "open_basedir" problems in various modules under Plesk 8.0.0. My primary reason is for our own use on our Hostbuds hosting platform here in Australia.

Note that this RPM can only be installed by Plesk hosting admins, not by Plesk users!

However, I am interested in knowing if there are

  • Any Plesk hosting providers who are interested in trying the Plesk RPM.
  • Users who are interested in using Drupal within a Plesk hosted environment if we start making it available ourselves.

Keep in mind that we are in Australia, and I'm not really even sure we're going to offer hosting to a wider public audience. Plus, hosting here in Oz is more expensive than in the USA. But, if there is interest, we may consider it.

Contact me via my contact form if there is any interest in the above, especially from Plesk-based hosting companies. Note that I am not making any committment to providing these builds. I just completed the first installation yesterday, and am looking for feedback and advice. However, I have created some pretty good scripts which automatically download, build, and test the current Drupal version. So, keeping them up to date is pretty painless. I'll be happy to make the RPM available for a limited time to determine whether distribution is worthwhile.

I noted the discussion about Fantastico and the problems with "script-driven" installations. The Plesk installations we're testing are a joy to use, mainly because of Plesk's excellent application vault plug-in capability. I can say from experience that the bundled applicaitons are only "as good as the bundler". Many of the Plesk open-source bundles that come from SwSoft aren't that good, mainly because it's an "afterthought" and the bundlers don't really understand the applications fully. We take Drupal pretty seriously, and aren't intersted in "generic Plesk bundles". Without testing and QA, I can easily imagine the script-installs being pretty poor.

Sorry for the rambling post, but given that there doesn't seem to be any good Plesk install of Drupal, I thought it was good to determine what the interest is, if any.

I would like to test the rpm in one of my Plesk servers.

Are you still providing it?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm trying to set up Drupal 5.2 on a Plesk managed server... hasn't been fun.
I would be interested in an RPM approach. Are you still providing this solution?
As an aside: Once Drupal is installed, will all domains have to be Drupal driven?

Thanks
