After doing the update of my site, the CCK image field I created disappeared, to re-upload, at times it re-appears, sometimes not. When re-appears after a time it disappears again. I checked the folder / www / sites / default / files / imagefield_default_images the server, the image was not there. Re put her hand numerous times already, but it disappears again. Does anyone have a solution to this case? ps: sorry for bad english

quicksketchI haven't ever seen this problem and haven't gotten any similar reports. I'm closing this issue after a lack of activity. Please reopen if steps can be provided on how to reproduce this problem from a new installation of Drupal.

p.brouwers commentedI have the exact same issue.
The image gets deleted but it's record in the files table still exist.
To reproduce I had to do the following:
-Upload a default image with name: 'default.jpg'
-Check that the file is missing in: sites/default/files/imagefield_default_images (if not, delete it so you can reproduce this issue)
-Upload a default image with name: 'default.jpg'
Now what happens is that CCK form thinks there is still an old image 'default.jpg'.
You upload a new image with the same name and afterwards the old image get's deleted, but it deletes the NEW picture.
Still have no clue why the file went missing in the first place.

quicksketchThis is the real problem, ImageField shouldn't need to compensate for the original image being missing in the first place. If you can find out why this occurs then we'll be able to fix this problem. Otherwise I think the current workflow is correct. If we deleted the image before saving the new file we'd have the problem of deleting the current image when the new image encounters a validation error (like wrong extension or file too large), then the existing image would be lost and there'd be no default image at all.
Please reopen if more information can be provided on how the original default image went missing in the first place, otherwise I think the current approach is already fine.

quicksketchAh, "the real problem" is this issue: #501594: Default image incorrectly deleted when replaced on a shared content type
