FileMaker Launched Step One Towards PHP Support
http://filemaker.com/developers/resources/php/index.html
FileMaker has released a beta version of the FileMaker API for PHP. It now allows FileMaker Server to understand commands sent by PHP. This software is in beta form and no support is being given by FileMaker but the fact that they have released it to users and are asking for feedback makes it appear as if someday they would like SQL databases and FileMaker databases to be almost interchangeable.
I'll admit this is a small step in the right direction, but it is a step that appears to have taken some real developmental muscle on FileMaker's part and could mean great things for the future of web databasing.
Not sure if anybody else out there cares but I personally am jazzed at the potential thougth of seamlessly combining a PHP front-end (*cough* Drupal *cough*) with a FileMaker backend. Now if only this were available now and I'd already have two projects ready to roll on it. Well...someday.

This would be an awesome way to give one of my clients a web interface. He wants to sell his products stored in his FM database but recreating each one would be too time consuming.

I'm currently working with a publishing company that runs a handfull of publications ranging in circulation from 700 to 11,000 and wants to be able to give each user an account login based on their most current subscription data that must update automatically. They also want them to be able to login and view or modify their account information such as the address the magazine is mailed to. Up until now this would have required an entirely seperate site using ODBC but now it can all happen in realtime AND integrate with Drupal. I'm tellin' ya...I haven't stopped drooling.
