I've read up lots of tips in other topics for getting PayPal IPN to function properly in conjunction with the paypal_subscription module. Unfortunately, even after trying these tips, I still haven't been able to get it to work properly after months of on-off effort.

Currently, a "Buy Now" button on my site directs the user to paypal, they successfully pay (and the transaction is given completed status in PayPal), then PayPal redirects the user back to my site. However, no record of the transaction is recorded using the paypal_framework module and therefore the user is not upgraded to the "subscriber" role.

I managed to find the "_paypal_ipn_receive" function in the paypal_framework module and inserted an error_log statement to send me notification (via email) that the function has been entered. No emails come through.

When is the "_paypal_ipn_receive" function triggered?

What is the best way to debug it so as to determine which part of the process is causing problems?
At the moment I don't even know if my site is receiving the ipn.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Take a look here http://drupal.org/node/78002 for info on a new Paypal module. I have tried it out and it works well.

Thanks for the suggestion but, as my initial post indicates, I am using 4.6 and I don't think that new module will work in 4.6 (but I've posted a message in that topic to check!).

Unfortunately, the module author has confirmed it won't work for 4.6
