This patch is for the old 4.4 code, since then and for Drupal 5 there has been almost a complete rewrite of the spellcheck code. Help requied with a 4.7 backport of the drupal-5 branch if there is demand.

No takers for 4.7 branch -- As i am focusing only on 5.x and 6.x releases this issue is now closed. At this time, there will be no 4.7 release of Spellcheck.
