Having been a long time user of vbulletin, one thing i always enjoyed was the "Hacks Of The Month" idea they implemented.

I think it gives credit to module developers and highlights potential modules you may never have thought of using before. I'm not entirely sure how we can implement that at drupal.org but i'm wondering if the idea has merrit here.

Granted ALL module developers are well appreciated but wouldn't it be nice to have the ones that go above and beyond the call to have some status, even if its just for a little while ?. Theres nothing better than friendly competition.

Your thoughts ?

Especially as I have found some modules really useful only after installing and testing them. Some godd modules just don't have the good description for themselves going along with it.
Maybe modules could get given points by registered users; by the end of the month the score gets frozen, and someone (volunteers anywhere?) writes a article about the module. The score then woudl get reset for the next month...

Maybe. But one needs the manpower (volunteers...) to do that.

Indeed, it's a great idea to out some module into limelight. However, I wouldn't make it a periodical as things may be hard to maintain. Rather a series of reviews which are online for at least 14 days, but if there are no reviews even longer. Or rotated by random?
However, this might be a good step to better manuals for modules... What if the "read more" pages become editable by an assigned "module manual editor" who will keep in contact with the developer and changing the module description where appropriate, based on user-feedback and development? Such "assigned" manual pages could be put to a "limelight" teaser (by random) to grab some attention...

Thats a very good idea as more often than not i've found features in modules i've tried i never knew existed as the author had ommitted to tell that they were present.

This is understandable due to the nature of a code who is usually more about the code than the documentation. I for one would be willing to help to some capacity on this as, not being a code, it would be a great way for me to help out with the drupal project.

One other thing i'd like to see, although understanably not so-able presently, is the support forum links on the modules main page actually linking to an independant forum that allows members to discuss the module in general. This woiuld allow not only support questions but general usuage ideas, guides, tips etc. I know this can be done in the drupal forums themselves but wouldn't it be better to keep the relationship between the module page and the forum together ?

Theres likely modules that have been contributed already that would allow this to be implemented relatively easily.

And it would certainly have to be user voted somehow.
