Hi. Thank you for your time and effort and all the hard work for l.d.o.
Lately we Japanese users have been discussing about the need for Japanese documents. For Drupal to obtain high popularity in Japan, crucial is not only the Japanese interface but also the Japanese documents such as the Handbook on drupal.org.
Is there any discussion or plan for l.d.o. to cover the Handbook and other documents?

aiwata55 commentedIn case documentation translation is supported at l.d.o., i think we need the Book module feature to mimic the structure / functionality of the original content (the Handbook pages).

gábor hojtsyThe documentation is to be moved to docs.drupal.org as per the redesign plan. That might or might not allow for documentation translation. The localize.drupal.org tools are not at all tailored for documentation translation.

Antoine Lafontaine commentedThis is a great news!
Even if the redesign does not allow for translatable documentation right away, I think that the idea of allowing docs.drupal.org book pages to be translatable would be a big plus. Hopefully the architectural changes brought by the redesign will make this technically feasible. Thank you for this information.

arianek commentednot to crash the excitement, but as far as i know there aren't plans for that in the first docs.d.o redesign phase (i haven't heard anything about it). it might be prudent to file an issue in the redesign queue and tag it with "documentation" (or move this issue there) if you want someone from the redesign team to see it and let you know what's going on.
i know several other countries have their own domains with documentation in their language eg. for belgium: http://drupal.be/documentatie

add1sun commentedAriane is correct that there are no plans for docs.d.o translations for now (or the foreseeable future). During the last year I started a lot of conversations about this with many communities around the world. While we can enable this on the technical side, it is apparent that centralizing translations on docs.d.o and figuring out how to maintain that is beyond the available resources and, more importantly, the desire of many non-English communities. I encourage folks to continue discussing this issue, not only within language communities, but also between different languages. Perhaps a group on g.d.o would be a good place to locate these conversations about providing non-English documentation.
