OnGalaxy:

A community-driven vault with a ranking engine for promoting collaboration. Users suggest, moderate and have the control, with direct influence over the evolution of the galaxy. In other words: by aliens, for aliens.

The interface is quite similar to Fark tag-based frontpage, except that the tag graphics don't suck :o)

The idea is that users should have full involvement in the community, deciding and managing how things happen, suggesting and discussing on new ways to avoid making it obsolete and boring. Thus, it should be "under construction" all the time, as users continue to share new ideas and work.

The higher the contribution of an user is, the higher his ranking is, and thus his role is also higher, with more rights within the 'galaxy'.

Hopefully it will grow and become a nice resource!

Some ideas for it's future include a resource for evaluating P2P and media (soundtracks, etc) downloads (ex. by organizing tags and areas per-category with the taxonomy module) as well as other possiblities like TV guide reviews.

Feel free to make suggestions and comment.

I get a bunch of encoded garbage when accessing that URL. Maybe a gzip problem?

I've tested it with Firefox and MSIE and it works right away without problems. Could you take a screenshot of the content you get?
Might be a problem server-side due to zlib compression, I'll try to disable it.

Same thing happens to me (using Camino). It seems that the server is not setting the right cotent type, I'm sure Camino understands compressed content (Gecko engine).

I solved it :)
Too bad there are still issues with this. The problem is that it uses a non standard deflate compression. Everything should be fine now. It worked with Firefox perfectly (latest release, it's Gecko-powered too, on both FC5 and win32 XP SP2) even with that enabled.

Now there are no showstoppers hopefully. Enjoy!

I still get garbled stuff... FF 1.5.x, XP SP2

Nothing but garble, Windows XP and Firefox 1.5.0.6

It's same environment here, everything works perfectly, other people acknowledge it. Take a screenshot to show what isn't working in case you're really getting "garbled output".

(Compression is disabled server-side, only php can use the zlib handler and it's FULLY supported by all modern browsers now, I've tested with MSIE 6.0 up-to-date, Firefox latest versions and other browsers).

Again, please show me a screenshot of the output and I'll take a look over it in case it's really faulting and it's not bogus.

Thanks.

What's being "creepy"?. If you mean the tags, then it doesn't make sense. They could look ugly (they don't) but not that it could make anyone shit on his pants :o)

Well, maybe you mean the alien badges. In such case, new ones are on it's way fortunately because they, well, look weird. I know ;(
So "X Files" looking.

Cheers, have fun out there.
