I've done a few searches on this and couldnt find anything recent thats relevant, only old threads for 4.7 etc
The number of guests online based on the timeframe set in the block configuration has been fairly accurate up until a few weeks ago, now its almost always around 130 - 150 guests online, this is a very small site and going by visitor stats and google analytics the real figure would be around 20 guests maximum at any one time, the block is reporting far far more guests online than it should be, anyone any ideas why this is? Cache cleared, cron run several times, same results in the whos online block for weeks now.
Just to be clear, I'm aware of the timeframe in the block settings and its set to 15mins.
also, rather than starting another thread, I'm fairly certain the view count for posts isnt accurate if caching is enabled, a large amount of 'anonymous' clicks arent counted, is there something I'm missing in getting accurate figures here?

I'm noticing something
I'm noticing something similar. I recently upgraded from Drupal 5 to Drupal 6 and since then my "Who's Online" figures have got much higher.
Same here. Google Analytics
Same here. Google Analytics tell maximum online guests are 20. Who is online block shows up to 80 at times.

Me also, in Drupal 6.16. It is bad enough to trigger the Throttle, which makes me think it is an issue with more than just the block.
I also found this, suggesting that a particular module could cause the problem (though I don't use the one mentioned):

Actually, I think this may have happened to me around when I installed the Mobile Tools module. Is anyone else using that? I may have installed other modules at that time.
And more that it is a problem in 6.16:

I don't see anything in the 6.17 release notes suggesting that this was addressed. Is anyone on 6.17 having this problem?

I also installed the secure pages module around that time. Is anyone using that?
So Mobile Tools can
So Mobile Tools can definitely cause this. That module is adding session info for all anonymous users. I'm looking for more documentation and a workaround or fix.
.
I've been using Drupal since 4.6 and have never found that block to be accurate. LOL! I've got Woopra and can see how many users are connected and Drupal isn't even close. I never cared enough to dig into how Drupal handles sessions but there's definitely something screwy there.
