I use Lightbox2 - not Thickbox. I am unable to install this module (checkboxes are greyed out) because the Thickbox module is missing.

Lightbox has come into vogue for sure. At the time, lightbox did not support the specific things we had to do. For the D7 version, we will be switching to lightbox if it is possible.
