I can see why you might want a short delay before closing a leaf on "mouseout", but having the same (or any) delay on mouseover makes it much more difficult for users to navigate using this menu.
I've worked around this for now by disabling the superfish javascript.
I've logged this as a bug as I think it's a significant usability issue?

simg commentedw00t, my first actual submitted code contribution to Drupal !!
Attached is a mod to the nice_menus.module file so to that the admin screen now has a checkbox to disable the "HoverIntent" function.
If checked, it keeps the animation but sets the speed to be a very fast 100 milliseconds which is for most purposes is "instant" but gives the menu a nice "weighty" feel.
The problem could be solved in any number of ways, but this works for me :)
Not sure how I would create a patch, or contribute the code so I've just attached the updated .module file

nitebreedThank you simg!

mstrelan commentedRead Jakob Nielsen's post about drop down menus, in particular the Speed section. http://www.useit.com/alertbox/mega-dropdown-menus.html
HoverIntent is REQUIRED in my opinion. It is not a delay, it just tests whether your mouse is slowing down or not. If you move your mouse from the url bar down to page content the nice menu will expand without hover intent.

simg commentedThanks Michael.
I now agree with you :)
I think what put me off the original HoverIntent is that with the delay and the animation the menu seemed interminably slow - especially compared to the non-hoverintent css drop downs I've been used to.
Seems like my code doesn't actually stop the hoverIntent either :), so my version of the menus are working quite nicely with hoverIntent and *very* fast (essentially instant) animation.

simg commentedI've updated my local module to make the configuration options more accurately describe my added functionality.
Essentially I've removed the "disable hover intent" checkbox and added an option to the "animation speed" so that it can be set to "very fast". This gives a very short delay and animation (10 milliseconds each)
Attached is the code (still a bit "hacky" :/ ) if anyone is interested.

jonesui commentedI would like to request that simg "patch" (or something similar) be considered as a possible new feature.
(I'm using simg's "patch" for now, but I'd prefer an official version)
Ideally I would like to have control of the mouseover delay, the menu animation speed, and the mouseout delay.
I find that the default mouseover delay to trigger the menu is a bit slow (for myself and my clients).
Thank you for your consideration.

szadok commentedI would like that too.
Thank you !!

goldlilys commentedActually, can there be an option for the hoverIntent interval, sensitivity and timeout because the delay of the submenus when hovering over its parent links is too slow also.
Can this options be added for both 6.x-2.1 and 7.x versions? Thanks.
jnvsor commentedBumping - it's better to disable js entirely and just use css at the moment. Need options to customize delay.

avpadernoI am closing this issue, since Drupal 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x are now not supported.
