My programmer has come up with the following below to develop a cutomised ordering area in my ecommerce Drupal website. Does this look like it would work or is there a better way? And will it effect my SEO in any way.
Any help would be great.
Programmer has said:
We could build the new system using Javascript/Ajax and embed that into the pages generated by Drupal. That way the system is almost platform neutral, i.e. not .NET, Drupal, Flash or anything else...
If we can then use the MySql database you have already, we could (hopefully) pull products from it via XML and use that for the javascript 'product picker'. Then when the sale is made, we can push the products back into your existing system. Easy!!! It'll also use some cutting edge design/interface methods, so should look pretty cool too!

Let me guess...
Let me guess... Your programmer is proficient in Javascript/Ajax/XML, and not quite so proficient in Drupal....
Shouldn't your programmer be able to answer the questions you have here?
The real question for you to ask is to "How will this help sell more products". If the programmer can't answer that, he's probably not the right person to *design* your solution, even if he is the right person to *build* it. For me, any programmer who uses the phrase 'pretty cool' is someone to steer clear of in terms of any concrete business thinking. He probably needs a little reigning in.
